The greatest game with the worst name _"Twinkle Tale."_ No, I'm not joking: although it has *hidden gem* status, there have already been a few youtube videos made about it, so you can see what I'm talking about right away. A lot of brits remember it, as the grey market Japanese import scene was huge over there, whereas most Americans never heard of the thing.

yes i love insector X in fact i actually like the Genesis version better then the arcade due to the designs looking more badass and Phelios is probably the most unique shooter on there and its always been a favorite of mine. others i can think of that i enjoy are Arrow Flash, Dangerous Seed, Battle Mania and Twinkle Tale (although that one is more like Pocky and Rocky where you run and gun in a top down view)

I disagree with your take, the Genesis/Mega Drive was definitely known for shoot 'em ups and was just as good if not better than the TG-16/PC Engine. Here are a few more examples: Air Buster (better than the TG-16 port named Aero Blasters), Arrow Flash, Bio-Hazard Battle, Curse, Darius II (aka Sagaia), Darwin 4081, Gaiares, Hellfire, Steel Empire, Thunder Force series (2, 3 and 4), Whip Rush, Wings of Wor, and Zero Wing to name a few.
