Lady decade should be “Lady Decades” since she covers everything from the inception of video games to the cutting edge in her commentary. Keep up the good work lass and stay safe! Always interesting and very informative. The promo…. Ummmmm … not sure what you’re going for here. Your previous videos might suggest you don’t want calls for Onlyfans but this one… Again, not sure Kloe, but you do you girl.

Fun fact: the system wasn’t called the Sega Master System, it was actually called the Sega Power Base (hence why the Genesis/Mega Drive add-on was called the Power Base Converter). After being sold as the Sega Mk.III, it was re-packed and sold as part of two packages: a stripped-down Sega Base System, and a deluxe Sega Master System bundle. But those were different ways the system was packaged, the system itself was still the Sega Power Base.

I remember getting both the mega drive and master system 2 one Christmas. The master system 2 was from my grandparents. Man, I loved that console. the master system has to be up there as one of my favorite aesthetically appealing consoles. I recall going over to my friend's house as a kid to play Rocky, Zillion, and other games. Picked one up many moons ago after the Genesis came out for maybe 20 dollars in a box at a junk store with a bunch of games, and for the short time i had it, it served its purpose.

It's interesting to see the development of early PCs and the idea you could potentially have bought a gaming device and upgraded it to a full computer by adding modules instead of buying the computer and upgrading the gaming capability.

It was actually a common facet of early consoles/consumer computers. The NES' original Japanese name, Famicom is a portmanteau of "Family Computer". The C64 was housed in a keyboard, etc.

As you surely know, but the Master System was very big in South America too, in no small part because of the Brazilian company Tectoy. Even countries outside of Brazil would get Tectoy produced consoles and cartidges, I remember my siblings and I asking for a Master System for Christmas ,but getting a bootleg Famicom made in Argentina, which was very sturdy and of quality, all things considered, since South American markets were flooded with very cheap Famicom knockoffs in those days ( ours lasted for our entire childhood while friends that got other other more low quality versions had like 3 different ones. At the time even if the TV ads showed the Master System more colourful graphics it was a blessing to get this Famicom ( dubbed locally "Family Game") because games were very easy to find and for much cheaper than the ones for the Master System. And it was 92 so by then the Sega MegaDrive (yes we also got the Japanese version and bootleg versions of that) was already on the market, but it was deemed still a bit too expensive for most of us middle class kids.

I NEVER knew the Sega Master System existed until decades later when people cared to notice it. NO SUCH THING existed where I was. No stores had it. But when the Sega Genesis came out it was a BIG deal around here. Most didn't have a Sega Genesis UNTIL the price was dropped to $99. I was one of the few that had one long before the massive price drop. I knew Sega 8-bit games existed and of a console adapter that would allow playing Sega's 8 bit games but I didn't care. NONE of them seemed worth the cost of the power converter and effort finding the games. I knew of it and the games because a flyer advertising the power converter and some of the games came packaged with my model 1 Genesis. The silly part of it is ... WHY didn't they design the GENESIS to accept BOTH master system and genesis carts? It was stupid, seems they felt it was a good idea to risk being in the hole with a bunch of unsold power converters rather than JUST cutting that cost while potentially selling more master system games with NO added cost. It didn't make any sense and still doesn't.

A lot of decisions Sega (and others, but mostly Sega) took back then make no sense in hindsight (the saying goes hindsight is 20/20): -Sega developed a superior sound add on for the Mark 3 in Japan, One of the biggest criticisms the Master System gets is its high pitch 'tinny' sound and music, why didn't they just included the FM audio add-on with the base hardware? - they released 2 add-ons to the Genesis, the Sega/Mega CD and the 32X(which used some of the chips that the Saturn got), looking back we know that each add-on split the userbase. -the Saturn should have been backwards compatible with the Genesis easing the transition to 32 bit, and eliminating the reasons for the 32X. -the Dreamcast should have waited to have DVD as its game media...DVD was still too expensive when the Dreamcast came out (98-99) but it made all of the difference for the PS2 which was the first DVD player for a lot of people out there, if only Sega could have waited...

Jesus Christ. I honestly thought I knew of every piece of Sega hardware ever made. It melts my brain how many thing Sega made even if it never made it to market. But this takes the cake. BOTH the Sega Master System AND the Nintendo Famicom / NES were intended to have a floppy disk add on, only for such a thing to become redundant. Since the cartridge technology improved so much, there was no need for the disk systems, so the expansion ports go unused. :(

Another thing that probably contributed to SEGA deciding against releasing the MS FDD addon would have been the levels of piracy going on in the PC/Amiga gaming scene at the time.

At the very least they should have used flying leads to connect the tabs to the PCB, or better yet source a proper 90 degree connector. That.. thing is a cracked solder joint and intermittent connection waiting to happen.
