Ported to their Genesis console in 1989, SEGA had something to prove with their version of Capcom's Ghouls N Ghosts. I teamed up with Johnny Millennium (Happy Console Gamer) and Joe Redifer (Game Sack) to share some memories and stories with this early Sega Genesis classic.

Hey guys! This about wraps up my Ghosts N Goblins content for a while! Hope you enjoy this fond look back at the Sega Genesis entry to the series, Ghouls N Ghosts. Big thanks to Joe Redifer and Johnny Millennium for coming onto the show today. Ever played Ghouls N Ghosts? Tell me about it in the comments. Thanks y'all!

I have to ask.. I started watching your newest video of getting your SNES and went to the comment section just to see people's reactions and saw the comments were turned off. Were certain people being overly negative?! If so, that's reprehensible. These are some of the best videos on KZfaq and if you had to take off the comments that's infuriating. I was just curious.

@@brianm5563 Thanks man no its just KZfaq’s policy to disable comments for videos with kids in them. Sometimes it doesn’t recognize kids but when it does, the comments get disabled. Thanks for watching! That full episode can be seen in Episode 3 of the series.

Ghouls n' Ghosts is my favorite of the series as well. This was one of the very first games I got with my Genesis back in 1989. Your dad had some very good taste my friend. I did not know Yuji Naka was involved with the port. That's likely the reason it's so good. One thing that does bother me however, why didn't he go for a bigger cart size. I truly believe he could have hit full arcade perfection or at least beat the SuperGrafix version had they pushed for two more megs.

Great video! I had originally seen pictures of Ghouls N’ Ghosts on the box for my Genesis. But because Ghosts N’ Goblins had mentally scarred me (You had to beat it twice?!) I didn’t bother playing it. But once I played it in the arcade, I had to get a copy for my Genesis. When I finally did, I was amazed how close it played to the arcade game. Funny enough, I got it after Strider, a game that set the bar high for arcade ports. On an unrelated note, I couldn’t help but notice your Game On Expo shirt. Are you in AZ?

You have to wrestler with the devil and go to hell and back again to beat this game, literally. That was all completely intentional. These arcade games had horror themes for a deliberate reason, not just looks, it was a dare. "You're going to have _nightmares_ about this game, kid." If you think about it, all the original horror games from Japan were _frighteningly_ difficult. That *was* the trend. Standing in front of the Ghost n Goblins or Ghouls n Ghosts cabinet working the joystick with that music and those sound effects felt like pulling the lever on a trap door on yourself that lead straight to hell. It was a sadistic box of nasty tricks that you were so stupid you actually paid a quarter for. You could hear the Crypt keeper laughing behind your back for doing it. The joke that you burst out onto the scene a daring do knight in shining armor and then run willy nilly around in yer underpants, completely vulnerable after just one touch said it all. You were definitely leaving this place screaming with your hair turned white and stuck up on end screaming. After it ate you up and your friend laughed at you there was the added drama of "ok, you try it then." And after they were done you'd see the whites of their eyes as they turned to admit "Yeah, it is really hard."

The best game by far on the mega drive system in my opinion but saying that I think it would have been better if capcom had added the shooting directly downward like in the SNES version which I also found to be a good game with a high difficulty level as you’d expect from a ghouls n ghosts game I love this game and I still play it on my original MK1 mega drive (29 years old and yes it still works!!) Nintendo switch is my next purchase just to play the new modern take on the ghouls n ghosts game I hope capcom decide to release it on the new consoles ie Xbox and PS5 we need these modernised retro games to be on multi formats not just the handheld consoles

It was almost the same game as the arcade. They removed the intro scene though.

These games were more my brothers style, whenever I attempted to play them I always died right away so I never got far in any of them but they're cool though still

I even own the supergraphix version of this game, but sadly no supergraphix yet lol. Maybe if I ever get aroinf to buying a nice crt. My idiot self got rid of them when I switched to flat screen. I just can't play retro systems on modern tv.
