Great video 👍 Last Bronx backgrounds were 2d parallax scrolling (except for the ring fences). Same effect as VF2. I think you're a bit harsh on Dead or Alive. It's in a higher res than the PlayStation and plays just as fast at 60fps 😀

Although Dead Or Alive on PSX did have more characters, the Saturn version was the Tomonobu Itagaki's favorite, that's the reason why Dead Or Alive Ultimate (Xbox) included DoA1 remake that was based in the Saturn version

One crucial omission: Virtua Fighter _KIDS._ Yes, the "Kids" sequel -that probably should have been called "the cartoony version" or something instead of "kids"- is actually a more optimized version of the original game. Many reviewers unfairly give it a low rating because they aren't used to the proportions and spacing of the characters (how far the arms reach, basically) but that is a shortcoming on the part of the player, not the game. It's the best of the bunch, believe it or not: it is the real "remix" of VF2.

You really did Dead or Alive dirty here. One of the most complete, unique and polished experiences for the console, and you just basically say "play the PS1 version instead". Seriously? Complaining about the game not having 3D backgrounds... On a 32-bit console? Seriously? The PS1 port doesn't have 3D backgrounds either. I'm really disappointed with how the best 3D fighter for the console was treated here.

Last bronx was on model 2 arcade board. AM3 were the development team. Also people seem to forget that soul edge had jiggle physics before DOA. Saturn version of DOA actually looks better than ps1, and more closely resembles the arcade version. The backgrounds on last bronx are 2D, and it's VIRTUA* not virtual lol 😜

Serious profesional players know Virtua Figther is a far more balance and in depth figther than Tekkens unbalanced unrealistic formula doesn’t mean it’s not fun but I would take any VF over Tekken any day

Both in the arcade and at home, _Last Bronx_ was very impressive in terms of both graphics and gameplay… but it still fails as a sort of "overall package", because Sega designed it as a return to their Master System era strategy of creating a game and a movie in tandem (remember Zillion 1?). The result is a dorky movie released in parallel with a dorky game and dorky music and a dorky title -and a tangled skein of dorky storylines in untranslated Japanese (in the various game endings). Sega never learned to do -cerebrally- what Nintendo had done instinctually with the early Metroid games. They didn't learn to create an ambience and a plot and a "total package" that was greater than the sum of its parts.

I assume this is "the next hurdle" in the marketing of mini-consoles and remixed retro software: we'll see _some attempt_ to cash in on the memory (millions of people have) of Fighting Vipers (etc.) in the same way that Sonic the Hedgehog has already been cashed in on (so many times). Will this be a good thing or a bad thing? I assume it'll be significantly better than the (pathetic) attempts to revive Sega's Fantasy Zone and Alex Kidd in the last few years. If Sega can put _Crazy Taxi_ on Android, they can do the same with Fighting Vipers, Last Bronx, VF1, VF2, etc. etc.
