have to say this is the best video I have watched in regards to catching the fish, knocking it out, and bleeding it. And in just over 3mins. Great job! Simple, easy, practical, and quick!

These videos are awesome. Thanks for these videos on preparing line, etc. I fished with my dad and on and off thru my life, but definitely a bit rusty. Not everyone is an expert. -)

Very informative video for novice fisherman like myself! Thank you for pointing out all the points in catching. The ice chest will keep the fish cold while fishing?

I try to keep the fish alive as much as I can. Killing it intentionally while you still fishing is stupid. I fish for hours and a dead fish can spoil too fast if the water is warm during summer.

John Bonson so do you just use a stringer until you’re done fishing, then dispatch and quick gutting prior to putting into a cooler of ice? What’s best for the fish and for getting it prepped for cooking?
@mdees88
@mdees88 Жыл бұрын
@@stevekelley2209 As the fish stresses out (like a fish that's been on a stringer for a long time) the quality of the meat degrades. It's best to catch the fish, bleed him while he's alive, then put into an ice bath (ice and water mixture) as soon as possible if you really care about preserving the quality of the meat.

Would it be better to bleed the fish or just dress the fish before going into the cooler?

I thought the point of a stringer was to keep the fish alive while you kept fishing?
@mauriciojan181991

If I had a ice chest close by I would do what is demonstrated in the video. Killing the fish as soon as possible and bleeding it out is a sure fire way to get excellent meat. A fish on a stringer releases stress hormones into the meat and it might affect quality. How ever if I don’t have a cooler near by because I’m fishing the whole day and it’s not feasible to bring a cooler. the fish is going on a stringer. I much rather have a stressed fish that’s alive rather than a dead starting to rot fish.

I believe the bleeding is more effective in water - it might clot and stop bleeding prematurely when exposed to air for too long.

As the previous reply stated: it bleeds out easier in the water. The stringer is to keep the body from floating away.

@@Spen4 Fair point but weirdly defensive. Considering the animals you eat are fed with more crops than I am responsible for, I'm not sure what your point is. I minimise the death I cause. It's easy to give up animal products; giving up anything grown would hinder my ability to survive.
