Thanks for the review : - perfect choice for the dial colour, the best of the lot IMO. - totally agree, don't understand that cyclop and should not be there. - surprised that with a hardlex bezel insert, they didn't Lume the 24 bezel markers, would have been great. I can already see myself getting a six after market case with saphir crystal and lumed bezel to reassemble this watch in a OEM case 😅.

I have one, and I love the watch. I love the cyclops and the alignment issue mentioned is the only thing that really annoys me. I plan on replacing the clasp also .

Nice looking watch, cheap enough for a daily beater too. No need for screw down crown with it recessed , agree the cyclops is naff (tho helpful for us older folks), I've never broken a hardlex crystal & am glad the bezel isn't lumed (look so tacky) Cool watch, bargain price. Cheers 👍🏻

Nice video! For the retail price I'd expect a milled clasp and sapphire crystal. However it won't be long before deals are available. Certainly wouldn't buy it straight away 😊

I get it, this watch is new and hot because of this movement and people are going to buy it anyway. In general I'm not OK with the Hardlex crystal and especially I'm not OK with it on a $ 500 watch. But what's exciting is what microbrands or brands like San Martin can make using this movement once it spreads out to them.

I actually believe this a fairly unique watch. Cheapest gmt watches from big brands are like 600 to 1000 dolars from big name brands. This is I think the cheapest big brand gmt watch that is available to buy today. I get that there are corners cut with the construction of the watch like the hardlex crystal and the pressed clasp but it is still a great deal in my opinion. Well done Seiko!

Great watch for the money and for what it is, an everyday but functional GMT beater. Got one for $365 and one for $340.

At $500 US, the lack of screw down crown is a deal breaker for me. I'm glad I snagged a new SKX007 on the jubilee the year before they dropped it. That watch deserves every bit of the cult status it has given it was the only watch I know from a well known brand under $200 with a ISO 6425 certified spec.

For this price a sapphire crystal and bezel is a minimum, and not this hardlex glass, for the stamped clasp I completely agree. The quality control is a big problem with the Seiko, it was ok when the ratio quality/ price was better on the older version, but not anymore at this new price. They should look at Orient with is own by Epson like Seiko.

I like the cyclops as I'm getting older and need reading glasses. I will be buying one when the hype goes down.

The polishing is polifaceted-zaratsu as you can see light reflections in all directions - the clasp is a poem.

It’s nice, but not great. Unless it’s specifically a Seiko that is wanted, there’s better GMTs out there from likes of San Martin and Chronos, and if you’re not into AliExpress brands then I’d probably spend a bit more and go for the Steinhart One GMT with a Swiss movement.

The watches I get from aliexpress for $100 have sapphire crystal..

I hope Seiko will produce the 36mm version of this watch, like the SKX 36mm version.

The cyclops is awesome to be honest .

San Martin, Cronos and Merkur make GMTs that are higher quality for much less money and I guess I just don't get the Seiko "mystic". I also have a Stienhart GMT with a Swiss movement, jubilee, ceramic and sapphire for a bit more money that is more like what you should be getting at this price IMHO.

Seiko needs to add a sapphire crystal, a ceramic bezel and a milled clasp. And get rid of that cyclops. Then you would have a great watch!

At the second position of the crown, the hour/minutes hands can not be rotated without the rotation of GMT hand. It is a big mistake for GMT watch. Or at the first position of the crown, hour/minutes hands should be rotated instead of GMT hand like Rolex II.

I have several Seikos but for the price they want for this I could get a Hamilton, Certina or Mido.

Seiko is stepping up, people are sick of rolex and there bullshit

My lasting Seiko diver watch lasted 2 years. IT loses 20 mins a day and stops 20 minutes after IT is put down. HELP ME PLEASE

I like your videos but I hate Seiko watches for the simple reason that they just don't care too much about QC and aesthetics. Some of their watches don't have screw down crown or they don't sign the crown or the bezel doesn't align properly and for a big company with big history is just unacceptable please don't mind my rant is just my honest opinion about the brand. Keep up the good work!!!

After abusing my original BFK for 10 years I can not complain about the clasp nor the glass....

I know everyone wants a sapphire crystal to a nice bracelet to a screwdown crown but this is a Seiko 5. If they added all the rest of the stuff, it would add to the cost. Seiko 5's are made to be accessible to the masses. If you want higher quality you go for a Presage or Grand Seiko. Im OK with Hardlex crystal. Ive never had issues with Hardlex or any other mineral glass crystal. I have G-Shocks if I need a beater to wear. No one makes a fuss over how fragile a Speedmaster hexalite is. In fact people go out of their way to buy a hexalite version. Go figure the fastidious nature of watch people. They all scream for sapphire claiming it is more scratch resistant but then want hexalite on a Speedmaster because it's "traditional". As for screwdown crown, this isn't a diver. It's more of a traveller or "explorer" watch so I think a non screwdown crown is totally acceptable and not a big deal. If you want a true diver then get a Seiko Tuna, or a Citizen Promaster. The charm in Seiko 5's is that they can squeeze so much into an affordable watch. I for one have no issues at what they give you for a sub $500 GMT automatic watch and will be buying one.

No screw down crown, not interested! I can’t tell you how many watches I’ve ruined by ripping out the stem just performing things living everyday life! I’ve totaled two Seiko fives, one crappy older tag, and a Swiss army watch! Only interested in a watch with a screw down crown at this point. My older, and well used Seiko SKX173 looks like hell. But I’ve never been able to knock it out of commission. I really like the newer Seiko five lineup. Just can’t get past the omission of this very important option on a watch!

I wouldn´t say its a true GMT, it´s more a tripple timer. Using the outer bezel, the inner bezel and the dial you can have 3 times.

I cannot make peace with the crown at the 4 o'clock position of many Seiko timepieces. I get it - you may use the watch underwater. But you're not manipulating the crown underwater, with gloves on. I'll never forget a snarky comment made by a very successful managing director of one of the oldest Swiss manufactures when I sat down to interview him many years ago. In his thick French accent, he elaborated that many other brands expose their lack of savoir-faire in the watches they produce. He made a special point to criticise the placement of the crown at the 4 o'clock position. In his view, it revealed that the movement was not designed correctly. I'll never forget that and I had to agree. From at least an aesthetic viewpoint - it is wrong - regardless if it is ergonomic, or even if it is true that the movement lacks logical balance and cohesion. Certainly no one is criticising Grand Seiko's savoir-faire! But then again, GS is not putting the crown at 4 o'clock.

I m perfectly fine with the cyclops…. Cyclops doesn’t automatically means copying from Rolex…😂

The average Seiko buyer like the average Japanese citizen tends to be older. Which is why I think they added the cyclops. I think a very high percentage of Seiko owners wear glasses so the magnification helps with reading that tiny date. Ditto for Rolex...probably more so since 90% of the guys I see wearing Rolex are middle aged and older. Smart watches have become the default watch for people under 30. As far as Seiko price inflation. I think the days of inexpensive Japanese movement watches with sapphire crystal are long gone. It's going to make Chinese watches with Seiko movements much more popular. For a non enthusiast who doesn't have multiple watches asking them to pay $500 and up for a mass produced watch with a $10 movement that only tells time versus a $300 smart watch that tells you literally every thing is commercial suicide. We have a new Quartz crisis on our hands... it's the escalating cost of analog watches with fairly unremarkable mechanical movements that provide no status or "flex". The number of young people buying $500+ mechanical or Quartz watches by count is zero. This is a big big problem. Who is going to carry Seiko into the future?
