Was close to streching for a sinn 104 | W, ended up with this watch, got in on a barton rubber strap. Its the most comfortable and probably the most versatile watch I got. Wasn't considering a quartz untill I tried this watch in a boutique, went home, researthed it and came back for it with a discount down to 450 euros, after a little haggling.

I'm enjoying mine, same version as yours, two weeks now, eBay from Hong Kong to US. I hate the bracelet, and will soon get the custom one Marc at Long Island Watch made. The fact it's a solar quartz is not a negative, but a positive; it's 10.7 mm thick! One point never discussed anywhere in youtube is the dial. Yes, it's a sunburst, but I'd swear it is a midnight blue in direct light. I dunno, it could be due to the bezel reflecting, but nevertheless this dial/bezel combo is the nicest thing in my collection!

Good points. Yes the bracelet is irritating. It’s as if they gave it solid links to justify the higher price but didn’t think about the profile and aesthetics. The stock bracelet irritates me more than some of the older seiko 5 bracelets. Thankfully the Long Island bracelets have had great reviews. I ordered one today. I’ve sold the watch and bought the matte black version for the full no nonsense tool watch aesthetic that I always crave. I think this will balance out the rest of my collection. Thanks for sharing your experience. Let me know if you get the oyster or jubilee style from Long Island and your experience with it please. 👍🏽

I have the Padi version and love it. It is running 1 second a month fast. Incredibly accurate, comfortable, affordable, robust, legible and light weight. It even has an interesting dial with the globe. Yes the end link is hollow and the clasp is stamped but this makes it light weight and adds to the comfort, about 135 grams. Finally, the Seiko stamped clasps are good quality. I have had this clasp on another Seiko for 17 years with full time wear and no issues.

@itsallrobbish Жыл бұрын
I'm really tempted with one of these. Its the size and convenience. I'd have it on a NATO or rubber and I have a minimum 7.5 inch wrist. I was really keen on a Citizen Eco drive for its convenience and thought I'dlook at my go to brand, Seiko to see what they had to offer Solar wise and I came upon this. Yes, its pricier, but it has the sapphire crystal which I find more practical. Good review, with some great points. I'm not a fan of the pressed clasp, but the hollow end links do appeal. It has solid links, but the hollow end links means it sits on the wrist better, by the looks of things.
@Thewatchera1 Жыл бұрын
Hi Robert. Good points mate. The Eco-Drive divers are really good too for the price and for a watch that has some history to it. For my personal tastes the seiko wins out due to the classic looks and dimensions along with the sapphire crystal as you stated. The bezel action is a lot tighter on the Seiko too. The Eco-Drive still punches way above in terms of value for money though in my opinion. 👍🏾

Worth pointing out that every feature on this watch and bracelet is designed to ensure the watch complies with ISO dive watch standards. The stamped parts and lack of a date window bezel means that there is nothing to fall off and jam the mechanism under water. The lumed second hand counter balance means you can check the watch is running at a glance under water. Screw down crown, sapphire glass, a two second jumping second hand if the battery is low, 120 click dive bezel, a lume pip at 3 O’clock, and some form of anti reflective coat inside the crystal, are all part of the certification process. This is a professional dive watch even if most examples will be lucky to see the bottom of a swimming pool, let alone get anywhere close to their dive tolerance.

As you mentioned in a comment, I had pretty much the same experience... and now own 2 models (the black and the PADI). I pretty much hated it when I got it. My daily drivers were around 39mm/40mm and this one looked small and cramped, so it went back in the box. Then, same process occured, went and put it up for sale. Went up for a week then decided to crack the box open again, wore it for a week, then two, then went to Miami with it and I now LOVE this watch (so I decided on getting the limited PADI before they go out). This watch have the coolest finish, curves and dimensions and that mate bezel is also really sexy. Watches rarely have that effect on me... the ONLY flaw this watch has is that it's not an automatic :)

Thanks for sharing that! I’ve heard of a few experiencing the same as us. How have you found the matte black version? I saw the Green and blue on a channel the other day and my version is still my firm favourite. And yes if this had an automatic version that would be a hit for sure! 👍🏾

@@Thewatchera1 Well, I like the plain vanilla black one as it just showcases the design, no bells, no whistle. I must admit that the brown is really tempting as it's the one that caught my eye when they first came out. The one flaw is actually a positive. I’m just over how inaccurate Seiko watches are, especially when microbrands regulate the same movements and sell watches for less.

Do you prefer the black or the PADI (the one with blue accents)? The PADI blue accents are nice but the globe dial is a bit distracting. The vanilla black one seems more classic, but it is only sold with a silicone strap. Decisions, decisions...

It's hasn't really taken design queues from the Submariner; it's more a case of convergent design. Crown guards are entirely functional, and if we're going to appeal to the design of the face, we have to talk about the 50 Fathoms; which I'm pretty sure was milspec anyway (I'd have to double check).

Hello. Sorry for the delay, I’ve been off of here for ages. You’ve probably made a purchase by now but I always say the most versatile colour way is black. What end of the second hand are you supposed to look at. Why is the lollipop not in the large end?
@michaelkaliski765110 ай бұрын
The lumed lollipop is an indicator to show the movement is still running when diving. You can still use it for timing in the dark, just 30 seconds out from the seconds pointer. This design also ensures the second hand is balanced reducing the power needed to run the watch movement.

i have a black dial/bezel version on the rubber...no way i'd get that bracelet. good follow up review but one thing i can't understand is when a watch is praised for being able to bash it up, because you wouldn't do that with a more expensive watch. i can't for the life of me understand how people can praise something they appreciate for being able to be wrecked. i have $1500 Swiss divers, and $100 invicta auto divers...and though i'd be more upset to damage the more expensive watch, i treat each as carefully as the other and would never think to treat something i own poorly because it cost less. somethings are made to used under harsh conditions, but a watch can always be removed rather than pounding it against wall or bricks and saying, 'it's ok, i didn't pay much for it.'
@Thewatchera1 Жыл бұрын
Hi Johnny. Thanks for your feedback. I totally get what you’re saying mate. You’ve probably heard this before but watch collecting can be very subjective. The watch world is crazy with all its different watches at different price ranges. Some will advertise based on the idea of luxury, some heritage, some reliability, others like this Seiko on it’s “Professional Specifications”. It’s not always possible to handle these watches in the metal and so people want to know if they are well built and able to handle being knocked about, whether this is when using them as they are advertised like this “Scuba Diver” which is “ISO certified” Or whether it’s the possibility of accidentally dropping it, knocking it against a wall or things like this. For some a Rolex is a big investment, for others an Invicta is a big investment. Everyone wants to know that they are getting their moneys worth regardless. Most reviewers are not encouraging them to be knocked about but just stating that if there is a situation where the watch unintentionally takes a few knocks, it’s able to handle it.

Excellent point. For me its two things, I like having something so complex and completely mechanical on my wrist. The second is the connection to history. I enjoy seeing pictures of early military divers and warfighters wearing old mechanical time pieces. However you're out of your mind if you think current military or professional divers use a old or mechanical watch as a primary time keeper. People will argue for hours about what watch spies or James Bond wore. In reality the old Bond wore the best tool for the job back then, now without product placement he would probably be wearing something tough, nice looking, and solar.

Microbrands getting better and better adding ceramic bezels, domed sapphire crystals, wonderful lume and quality in every detail running on miyotas or seikos automatics.
