omg that second hand...thats a face palm moment. so weird that seiko hasnt revamped their QC dept with all the bad press. either way, that new $500 is the best looking to me.

The fact that the SNR is a spring drive makes any comparison meaningless. The greatest watch movement in horology.

Boils down to ones budget. All three great watches. I have the sharp edged and at $1400 it was my budget and I'll never be sorry.

Oh Seiko! Fortunately, my recent Night Vision Samurai is flawless. Too bad it doesn't have a 6R, but sapphire and ceramic are sweet upgrades. That collection there is a sad state of affairs. Glad for my Mido true GMT.

You get spring drive on the $5500 watch, so it's not a small difference.

I've got the Sharp Edged SPB223J1. It's my 'Goldilocks' in a Seiko GMT. No QC issues, guess I have a Unicorn (it's perfectly aligned). It wears well, is gorgeous to the eye and the 6R is keeping perfect time w minimal -3/day drag. It dresses up or can be worn daily. My Seiko advice is to buy in person from an AD or Seiko Boutique to avoid any QC surprises. This is a watch I plan to keep and pass along as an heirloom. Call it my baby GMT GS.

I completely agree! Mine is also perfect, and got it from a local watch store. Maybe the ones they have issues are grey market, like Jomashop watches with no USA warranty....

I almost pulled the trigger on the sharp edge. I really like that dial. But with the GMT movements that were just released, I can hold off for a year (or two??). I think Seiko and Citizen could release some very cool watches.

I have the Sharp Edge as pictured here, its amazing in person. Got it from Exquisite Timepieces in FL below retail. I got lucky, I do not see any flaws on it, it looks perfect. As for the SNR, I agree, its way too expensive. I said it on another video with one of their divers that costs 5k, if you are going to charge GS prices, get a GS. If Toyota made a car priced as much as a Lexus even with similar quality, why would you get a Toyota? This is a case where branding does matter IMO, especially when it comes to resale. I did pay over 1k for mine, but not 5k.... I can see Seiko making more watches in the 1-2k range and raising their overall brand's prestige, but over 3k, they are in waters with other prestigious swiss brands and it does not make sense to me. Spring drive or not, no Seiko should be over 2k in cost.

If I can ask your opinion - I have the chance to grab a pre-owned SNR049 limited edition for just about $3,400, but I keep comparing it to the SSK003 at $475. I have the grand seiko SBGE255 and love the spring drive, but finding it hard to justify another spring drive watch at that price when the SSK exists in the similar color scheme. Which would you pick?

you seem to forget that the $5,500 is more for many reasons, 1) the movement is MOST accurate, 2) its got 72hr movement etc etc

Got a Sharp Edge with the black dial for 700, I did notice a misalignment at the 3 o'clock marker but I really have to stare at it to notice it.

My SNR051 also has the very very slight alignment issue on the 12 and the chapter ring. I kind of wonder if they all have them, or if the early ones have them.

Great video. Was waiting for someone to compare between the 5kx and the Sharp edge. One thing to note that the hour hand jumps on the sharp edge, but yeah no rotatable bezel.

All very pretty, but I'm not a fan of electronics in my watches so won't be entertaining a spring drive. Mechanical all the way for me these days, I have that ssk and it's pretty decent. Still keep going back to my Gen 1 orange monster though, prefer it to everything else I have. No GMT on it though 😁

thanks for the comparison! I made my choice and now wear an SNR033. there are some minor compromises as mentioned, but I can easily say it's the fave in my collection without regret. liking chunky sports watches is going to be important for you to like this one. what helped lots is not paying the $5.5K retail. my buying experience was an eBay find from Japan, $3.1K base, free shipping, no import duty, 9% my state US sales tax = $3.38K delivered. oh, this went through the eBay authentication service, presently at no charge. I'd definitely pay for that service even if it cost something. though pre-owned, I couldn't tell this example from new. the no-questions-asked 30 day return policy with this shop sealed the deal. it's not being returned. message-- still not cheap, but absolutely don't pay $5.5K for one because you don't have to. there was a promotion for a new one last year for $3.85K that I didn't jump on. shoot for 30% off and if that makes it worth it for you, I think you'll be a happy camper like me 🏕😎 insist on at least this discount on the SNR and you can get the other two as well for your $5.5K 😀

Iv now had 2 seiko unicorns my presage if they messed up something on that watch it would have been sent back because it would have been hands or a dial marker my new ssk001 is perfect Iv checked everything even the new uneven crystals that don’t get seated properly like Iv seen on Reddit a couple times even the gmt hand hits the mark I was shocked. I know once I actually invest into a “higher end seiko” I’ll get a fucking lemon but for now I’m good lol!

You forgot to mention one important thing. The SSK is an office GMT while the other two are traveler GMT. No matter how good they are, both type have their own use and are not really comparable.
