I’ve got this watch as a gift back then 2017. I didn’t know this watch such a legend because i’m not really into watch. Then i just realised after doing some research. It’s really a great piece, and it’s still like new. 3 years of using. Love it ❤️

I bought a SKX007 back in 2008 for $180. It really was the best watch for the price. After years of daily use it finally gave in. Recently searched for one in 2020 and was surprised by how much they had increased in price. Reminds me of my Seiko Tuna Can that went from $550 to $800 over night. Just bought an open box SKX007 for $225 and is now going into my special occasion only collection, no more daily now reserved for a Casio...

I bought this watch back in 2015. This will be my first automatic watch. Love it to the core, had no issues with it. I just love the versatility of the watch regardless of perlon or nato straps, it just looks good in every straps. Unfortunately, the original rubber strap just broke on it its own couple of days back. Hence, now i’m awaiting for new grey color rubber straps from crafterblue that i just ordered. Cant wait.......😇😇

Charming thing about the SKX, it doesn’t want you to waste time winding it or setting it to the exact second. It just wants you to shake it a few times, slap it on your wrist and never take it off. It wants to be YOUR watch. Get the 009 Pepsi to go with it, and you will have the perfect 2-watch collection. Of course, I didn’t come to this realization until after I already owned 18 other watches.

I bought the SKX009 as my first automatic, and I still daily it two years later, despite buying and selling higher end Seiko divers. I wear mine on an Uncle Seiko Z199 bracelet.

I have the SKX007J same one that you have, I replaced the strap with Uncle Seiko metal bracelet. I bought the SKX009J and the SKX011J which you didn't mention in your video this is the one with the orange dial. Great informative video for another SKX007 fan. I'm still thinking if I'm going to get the SKX013, just like to complete the collection :) . By the way I bought the SKX 3 musketeers last December 31, 2019, so I think this is still a great part of anybody's collection. More power to your videos bro.

Thanks man your words are kind! Seiko has released a replacement for the SKX model called the Seiko 5 Sports. The SRPD55 model resembles SKX007 the most with Hacking and Handwinding mechanisms, but without the ISO certification. Alternatively you could look at Orient Kamasu which looks incredible as well! :)

I do own the 007J and 009J, love them both, I don’t mind not having hacking and hand winding, I keep them on winders when wearing something else like my g-shocks

Awesome video. Thanks for the info. Wondering if the prices will come down a bit. They like 420 on Amazon. I was able to get a sarb033 for 355 Usd on Amazon a month ago during a sale. That watch was also discontinued and the prices were up for a bit no?

Thanks! Yeah sadly Seiko seems to have discontinued a lot of its iconic watch models. Since they are iconic models, the demand will always be high and the stock will run out sooner or later so I don't think the price will go down in the future :/

They really are dark horses. A Hardlex crystal is better as a diver as it is less likely to shatter under impact like sapphire. Also, the movement is less likely to fail and succumb to rotor spin for example with no manual wind. ISO certified and a future classic. Subscribed. 👍

Don't forget the SKX011 Orange. I have the SKX 007, SKX009 and the SKX 011. I don't wear the orange very much but its quite nice to have with the collection. I love my SKX007 and have worn it almost everyday for 10 years. I put it on a Strapcode hexad. Its beautiful and quite heavy... Thanks for the excellent video. I put the SKX011 orange on a Uncle Sekio Rasor Wire. Looks awesome and different.

Bro can't stand watch snobs knocking the SKX. Yeah the 007, 009, 011, etc don't have the NH35 or sapphire crystal, signed crown, hacking, hand winding, but damn. It's iconic and the cheapest if not the cheapest ISO certified diver. Owned all 3, and always a watch that's my beater. Gotta love the jubilee, love it or hate it. Also coming from a fellow Asian too, haha. So underrated.

Rolex "Dive" watches start at $5k and are not ISO. SKX is a real Dive watch not a Poser Diver. And SKX can still be found for 300-400 in 2021. So it's a no brainer.

Had mine for a few years now. Beat it to hell, it’s crystal is pretty nicked but I still wear it. Delegating it as my go to beater that I shall not worry too much about. Just got a prospex padi turtle with Pepsi bezel to keep nice and not bang around while my skx remains the go to

I've none. My cousin got the SKX009K Pepsi black rubber strap for MYR1,250 from the mall in Kuala Lumpur a week ago. He got me started! I want the SKX007J from the same dealer, but he doesn't carry it. Looks like mall-located watch dealers do not hv access to "J" models unfortunately, only the Malaysia "K". The black bezel looks so inviting. I gotta get the SKX007J somehow. Getting sleepless nights just thinking about it in my hands. Arghhh!

Hey bro! I don't wear it everyday so often times I will have to reset the time. The mechanical power reserve is about one day or so, so if you don't wanna keep resetting the time, then definitely wear it everyday. I bought it from Amazon, but nowadays it is getting more and more rare because it has been discontinued!

I imagine a person asking the same question about what we now call the Willard back in the 70's... But yes, it is very relevant and will remain so. This watch is just as iconic as the 62mas and the original Turtle, the only reason it is looked down upon is because it can still be found relatively cheaply. But in 10 years time? I imagine a decent shape SKX, not modded, will easily be above $450-500. Because it is an icon.

agreed. i never understood the modding hype with skx. its design is unique. i will only do some minor mods (like replacing the hardlex with sapphire, not changing the dial or hands) to preserve the original design.

@@TheHynza Sounds just like I intend to do! And yes, all those (in most cases really bad) mods is exactly why an original shape SXK will hold a very decent value, and in fact most likely could be seen as an small investment. Way too many of these inexpensive watches has already been violently butchered by hacks, diminishing their value to scrap. As they are still available, I got a new 007J on order, which will have a flat sapphire with clear AR installed by the dealer, and will come on the original Jubilee bracelet. Sure, it costs me more now that it would have done a year ago, but I do not care. In just a couple of years time, whatever I paid for it now will be seen as a bargain. However, I have no intention of selling it, I intend to wear the cr@p out of it, having one of my nephews inherit it one day. Seiko got everything right with the SKX, even the Hardlex makes sense from a diving standpoint. I do not mind a scratched up bezel or bezel insert, but a scratched crystal irks me so much that I can step away from original. But yeah, I try to keep the original look by having a clear AR coating on the sapphire. TBH I funded this little indulgence of mine by selling a totally soulless Certina DS Action diver. It was a nice watch, surely, but it just lacks in almost every way compared to the SKX. I know, I know. The Certina is a "better" watch. Yeah, try to tell that to an audience at a watch auction in 25 years time. They will lool at ya!

@@Hermod_Hermit i wouldn't say seiko's hardlex crystal is easily scratchable. it is just one notch below sapphire. the problem is it catches dust and fingerprints, so it becomes dirty quickly. anyway, how much did you pay for sapphire + ar coating? enjoy your watch. also dont forget to get some straps (a rubber strap and a nato especially).

@@coganada2468 I see! $300USD is a little expensive but I don't think the price will ever drop with the watch getting more and more rare. If you would love to own a SKX007 for its style and heritage then I say go for it. If you just want a reliable diver watch, you could also go for the newly released Seiko 5 Sports or the Orient Kamasu which are both quality pieces!

I love ..love ..love Seiko! But honestly the citizens pro master NY0040-09e stole my hart year’s ago with their accuracy and quality control of the bezel (when it come to inexpensive iso dive watches),I’d bet that the Citizens lume also last longer as well.You gotta check check out there gen3 fugu edition Promasters..but Omg The king samurai(although a bit edgier) Truly is a masterpiece in my eyes. As far as the 007 the J is a must !!!

If you don’t plan to go diving with it and just for everyday use, the new seiko 5 will beat the SKX. The new seiko 5 has hacking, hand winding, and a open case back which the SKX do not have. But if you are looking to dive and wants an unbeatable iconic watch then SKX is still the king :)

i am a proud skx owner. i really like everything about it, even its outdated basic movement. however, with these inflated prices, i will not recommend it for someone who is looking for an entry-level watch. orient kamasu and other microbrand divers offer better value for the price.

If you are just looking at the specs then the Orient Kamasu is good enough, but if you’re looking to add a solid iconic watch to your collection then the SKX007 definitely will not disappoint! :)

It’s overpriced because it’s discontinued. Seiko has introduced its new Seiko 5 Sport which looks very similar to the SKX007 and costs around $200 you can check it out!

Most watch shops have stopped carrying it. You can get it on Amazon or ebay. Read the reviews, go for the one with the most favourable reviews!

If you really like the classic skx007 design and would wanna own such an iconic piece, then go for it! If you just want a good and functional watch, there are more worth it options such as the new Seiko 5 Sports and the Orient Kamasu!

SKX007 for me. A new SKX007 is getting increasing harder to find and its price is increasing as well. Seiko 5 Sport is still new and you can find them easily. But if you want the hacking and hand winding functions then go for the Seiko 5 Sport! :)

Although its cheaper to get a watch online, there is always a risk involved because you can't check the watch on hand. It's really up to your discretion!

SKX-Japan is the only acceptable SKX. SKX-K is gross. That being said, I like this video, wanted to see another video with the oyster bracelet. Btw, I prefer the older oyster where the end links are not this protruding "buck tooth". If you look at the 1990s Submariner, when SKX007 was released, the Oyster bracelet was not bucktooth.

Because hardlex is less prone to shatter than sapphire,this watch is designed to be TOUGH,,not a poser desk diver

There is hardly any difference in practice between hardlex and sapphire. Both have a very high toughness rating. Using sapphire would add to $$ too.

It's no longer relevant. No hacking or handwinding, and no sapphire crystal. Plus Seiko for some ridiculous reason decided to discontinue them, so they are shooting up in price.
