This video is about a cracking 1976 vintage Seiko Lord Marvel Hi-Beat dress watch, which I picked up recently. It beats at a rate of 36,000 vibrations per hour, giving the sweep of the second's hand a smooth and sinuous flow.

I've got one dated 1968. A beautiful reliable time keeper. It's a subtle classy watch that although originally intended as a every day watch is definitely a dress watch by modern standards .

The Lord Marvel 36000 watches are an excellent starter watch for anyone getting into Seiko's until they are ready to commit to a Hi-Beat King Seiko or Grand Seiko. The shock resistance is a bit better on the Kings and Grands, but the Lord Marvel won't disappoint. Be sure you're getting one with the Hi Beat movement, though as the early Lord Marvel's didn't get it. Be sure you can see the movement before you buy. The 5740C movement is the best of the best for that line.

This watch stood the test of time and you have a beautiful one here, the fun fact is that in 1976 this was one of the cheapest watches for men that Seiko was selling. 14,000 yen I believe.

Very lovely review. My Lord Marvel from Feb '69 is one of my favorites. I have the one with linen dial and arabic numerals. It's SS also, though I have seen others in gold-plate. I agree with your comment that the one you have in the video is more prototypical of later King and Grand Seiko models but that is exactly why I sought out the one with the arabic numerals. I wanted something slightly different from this model of Seiko. You are so correct that these are huge value and really amazing to hold to the ear and hear the high beat tick away. BTW - I really covet the rarer, early Lord Marvel with seahorse on the back, just missed on eBay a year or two ago. They go for a slight premium over the regular horseshoe back. Keep up the great reviews, I just subscribed.

Hi Houston Native- thanks so much for the sub and positivity. I honestly have to say, in all the years I have loved watches, this piece has been the most rewarding! Absolutely love the linen dial that you have, and I too also tried looking for the seahorse variant. On an interesting side note, I think these LM’s are now proving to be less abundant. I am actually considering hovering up any more I find now! Please do stay tuned, as I have a lot of Seiko related material coming up👍

Hi there- it’s 19mm lug width. Seiko’s are know for some odd lug widths and this was one of them! This was actually a custom order- real crocodile and with a high shine. The LM really deserved it.

Script looks heavy on the dial "Lord Marrvel 36000" might just be the light but it looks like a re dial it should be very fine and very visible but not so thickly applied.

Dear sir, your watch has hour and minute hands which are in sword style. Not dolphin ones. I have the same looking watch which belongs to seiko dx family. Amazing look like grand seiko. Amazing movement inside
@shothorology91834 жыл бұрын
Hello Sarmad. I did not refer to the hands as ‘Dolphin’ as there is not such a thing in watchmaking. Rather, I was referring to the hour/minute hands of this Seiko LM as being in the ‘Dauphin’ style (dough-feen). Please do a simple google search and you will see. The hands are definitely not ‘Sword’ style. If you look at a ‘Lange & Sohne’ watch, you will see an example of the classical ‘Sword’ style hands, which this watch definitely does not have. Kind regards.

Hi. How is the market value of this watch to date?
@shothorology91835 жыл бұрын
Hello Nato TS, thanks for your comment. I purchased mine last year for £250. I’ve kept an eye on the market for these LMs and for one in as good a condition as mine they are now pushing for around £350-400. I believe watch folk are just waking up to these cracking little Seikos. They offer so much for the price- vintage, bomb proof movement, 36,000vph. I think good examples are getting more scarce, but if you don’t have one and are thinking about it, you will not be disappointed. Do stay tuned for more upcoming reviews. 👍

Poulam Saha thanks for your comment- it would appear tht since I acquired my one which was around 6months ago, people seem to be saying that availability is very limited now and the price has increased. Hi Canino, congrats, the LM is a fine timepiece! I believe yours is either a 1967 or 1977 model. Possibly 1967, as I believe manufacturing of the LM ceased in 1976. If yours is in very good condition and telling time well then expect it to be worth around $400-$500. Cheers.

No, at 18,000 vph, the second hand moves 2.5 times per second. That’s why the 18,000 is also referred to as a 2.5 Hz movement and the 36,000 movement, as in this watch, is a 5 Hz movement. It actually ticks 10 times per second but the balance oscillates five complete times.
@peterblacksmith38172 жыл бұрын
No, 1 vibration is one movement of the second hand. you even acknowledged the 36,000 vph movement ticks 10 times per second at 5 hz. so the 18000 vph movement ticks 5 times per sec.
@thethirdman2252 жыл бұрын
@@peterblacksmith3817 A 36,000 vph movement _ticks_ ten times per second but makes only _five_ complete cycles (back and forth movement of the escapement). I was wrong about the number of times the hand moves in a second. My bad.
