I do think he is on to something. As a cashier that has to do 7, 8 hour shifts, I hate it when we aren't allowed to sit down as apparently "it makes us look lazy". Screw that, I'd rather look lazy and have my legs and back in one piece than stand for 7-8 hours with very little breaks in between(we get 2 15 min breaks, 3 of which is heading to the break room, 3 heading back, so really 9 minutes sitting down each break. I'm not saying let us sit for 7-8 hours, but rather in between customers when there is no one around and all our other work is done.
@SapientSpaceApe9 жыл бұрын
My old manager told me that she makes the cashiers stand because people tend to scan and bag the items a little slower when they're sitting down. I guess it must add up over the course of an eight hour shift. Still though, standing for eight hours does suck.

George is, uncharacteristically, the most compassionate of the group in this one. Yes, studies have shown that most people do their jobs better while standing up versus sitting down, and yes, security guards should always be on alert, but as someone who has spent 9 years of their life working in jobs that require standing up, I'd really like to walk into a restaurant or bar and see employees sitting down. Then again, I'm also the kind of person who cleans my own table before leaving a restaurant in order to make the wait-staff's jobs easier and I also tend to tip around 35%(despite being near-poverty myself), so maybe I'm just weird and/or and/or generous.

+Dakota Smith Please tell me how the hell a bartender in a busy bar would be able to do their job sitting down. Not trying to be a hardass, but it really wouldn't be practical. The important thing is to have thick rubber mats, those make a big difference.

***** I agree. While I'm a MAJOR proponent of tipping, 35% is very steep.

I use to be a guard dog for Gucci and I can confirm that you had to stand for 8hrs, sometimes 12. Fortunately I worked at the flagship Gucci so I had a partner and we would rotate doing small patrols to at least stretch our legs. We would use the elevator to squat for 9 seconds.

I liked the part where the security guard fell asleep. That was funny.

i thought he was just to slow to get up on time. but when i saw him flat out sleeping thru the robbery LOL many things that look odd at first glance do have a reason. but i agree that this is unimaginable standing 8 hours at one point. I would go nuts within 20 minutes... no kidding. If i could walk in circles, problem solved :-)

My sister works in a hardware store and she has to stand up all day. I feel so bad for her just like George here!

That security guard has got some health issues if he so easily falls asleep in that kind of chair.

Lucy Hunt the actors hated her irl, they said it was hard to do scenes with her and one of them demanded her to be fired or they would quit

She always seemed like an awkward fit on the show compared to everyone else. She felt like a character from Friends or Mad About You walked into Seinfeld. I wasn't surprised to learn that they didn't like her much behind the scenes.

And this, people, is exactly why no security guard in all of American retail history has ever had a chair to sit in on the job.
