Hello guys! This is my self build micro camper - also known as a boot jump camper conversion! It's a Ford Grand Tourneo Connect Titanium, and is basically a large car or MPV, also called a minivan in some countries.
Subscribe here: / @manontheoutside
I built this myself over a couple of weekends during lockdown and am using it as a stealth camping van / stealth camping minivan.
I removed the rear 2 seats so the car became a 5 seater, and I'm able to to transport the boot jump camper conversion kit around while still retaining 5 seats all the time.
This DIY micro camper build is basically a homemade boot jump conversion kit, and I based it on the Amdro boot jump, which costs around £2500 - I built this for a fraction of the price using materials from the local DIY/hardware store and a few basic DIY techniques I learned from watching KZfaq.
You can download the plans and detailed photos for my micro camper boot jump conversion completely free here: bit.ly/3lgi6iJ
I'm planning to to start stealth camping soon and I hope you'll subscribe to the channel to follow me around, to get some ideas for your own self build micro camper using a boot jump conversion kit.
My next video will be a complete walkthrough of how all of this works, including a set of plans you can look at.

I really like the removeable bed base, it's nifty that it can be stowed away while we're using it as a day van. The plans are great too, now to find the time to build one myself. Looks Amazing! I would like to ask that in the "bed mode" the driver seat is in the normal position? so the car can be used and you don't have to make the bed every time you want to drive the car? Thanks a lot
@ManontheOutside
@ManontheOutside 3 ай бұрын
Thanks! Normally it is, and I've driven it a few times with the bed made. But I now use a portable toilet on the right hand side at the back, and it pushes the whole boot jump further into the car (because the toilet will not fit in otherwise). So I have to roll the driver's seat forward a few clicks. It's still driveable but a little bit tight. But without the toilet in, I can drive without adjusting the driver seat.

These are absolutely brilliant, thanks. Where did you get the floating hinge? They seem to be difficult to find. (I hope those are affiliate links for Amazon)
@ManontheOutside
@ManontheOutside 3 жыл бұрын
@@gemg773 the floating hinge is just 2 pieces of plywood of different sizes screwed together, have a closer look at the photos. It's just literally a gap into which another piece of wood (in this case the end of the bed section) slides/slots into to hold it in place. Hopefully that makes sense, if not let me know and I'll see if I can explain it better. There are a few videos on the channel where I use the hinge, so you can see it actually in use. It's really just a crude method of allowing me to keep the bed section separate from the box/seating section so I can keep the weight down when loading it into the car.

Awesome, you'll love it! The rear seats are easy to remove, just need a rachet/socket level and T50 torx bit from memory. 4 bolts per seat About 5 mins per seat. I wrapped mine up with clingfilm and stored in the garage to keep them dry and free from dust etc.

How long do you think it took and how much in materials? Ibwas going to buy a Campal but at £2k it seems expensive. Also how do rate the van, im torn between this, Berlingo, Courier and Elgrand!
@ManontheOutside
@ManontheOutside 4 ай бұрын
Built it over 3 weekends or so. Materials were about 500 in total (including cushions) but probably could have gone a bit cheaper (e.g. not using pocket hole screws and just using PVA), that kind of thing. Prob could have shaved £50-70 ish off. I looked at all of those vehicles - I liked the Tourneo as it had great MPG, more spacious than the Berlingo. I think the Elgrand was very heavy on fuel which was a factor. Only problem with the Tourneos is that they're quite hard to get hold of now.

Hi Vinny I'm wanting to buy a tourneo connect grand and do something similar. But you say you are 5ft 10 inches tall and l see your head is almost touching the roof when you are sitting on the boot jump. I'm 6ft one, so it looks like a bad move for me. Can you advise on this. Thanks Tony.
@ManontheOutside
@ManontheOutside 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Tony! It is a bit tight on the headroom but I think you'll find this is the case with any similar sized MPV. My cushions are 3 inches deep (memory foam) so in theory you could use firmer but thinner cushions to buy yourself a bit of extra room. The Tourneo also has a roof void near the back that buys you an extra few inches, if you sit down near the boot. The other thing you could do is make the boot jump height a bit lower - you might not have noticed but I fold the middle seats down and drop the bed section on top of them, but the middle seats actually drop even further down into the floor, so you could make the boot jump a bit lower then put a shelf or leg under the bed section...this would buy you a few more inches again. My advice would be to view a Tourneo and take some cushions along to try out different seat heights, to see what works for you.
@ManontheOutside
@ManontheOutside 2 жыл бұрын
To explain this a bit better....if you watch this video, about 20 seconds in, you can see the middle seats fold flat, but also drop down even further into the floor. I only have them folded, so you can gain a load more space by dropping them into the floor and making the boot jump height a little lower, but it does mean you are sat lower so your knees are sticking up a bit more...hopefully that makes sense! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/etuhic-fmc6YYKM.html

Hi Vinny thinking building a boot jump your with plans what size pocket hole screws did you use.
@ManontheOutside
@ManontheOutside 9 ай бұрын
Hello John. I used 7x25mm, I found any smaller length didn't grip the 12mm plywood well. Because they go in at an angle, they're a perfect fit for screwing 2x12mm ply together. Just go very slow with them as they pop through the other side otherwise. Also ran a bead of Gorilla PVA along any joins just for extra grip. These are the exact ones I used: ebay.us/NaDFQN
