Xenia Tchoumi gives in her TEDxKoeln Talk an insight into her different identities. Internet is a low cost, democratic tool that - until now - has been quite unrestricted in many parts of the world. Women (and other social groups that are often discriminated against) have now a stronger voice and can reach a larger audience, just by sitting in front of a laptop or on a smartphone in their house. Forums, social media, blogs, video platforms and websites are all tools in which likeminded people can create communities and convey messages. Whether it’s trough entertainment, fashion, cooking, self-help or literature, the new technologies help us to branch out from old, rigid, social structures.
Xenia has made the experience of discrimination and sexism as an attractive woman in several professional fields she has worked in. She want to spread the message of how we can overcome these - thanks to tools like the internet, and mainly through a mentality shift for all men and women of 2015.
Xenia Tchoumi is an online entrepreneur, model and a digital celebrity. Swiss-Italian with Russian origins, she speaks six languages (Italian, Russian, English, German, French, Spanish) and holds a University degree in Science of Economics. Parallel to her studies and work experiences in investment banking, she was elected Miss Photogenique and first runner up at the Miss Switzerland contest. The attention from journalists brought her to fame: she then decided to self-manage her image and contracts and became spokes-model for major fashion brands and tv presenter.
Xenia hosted her own TV-show about business in Italy called „L’Italia Che Funziona“, interviews successful people in „La Recette De Mon Succès“ and has her own column in the american Haute Living Magazine and the British Le Grand Mag. She gives leadership speeches at universities and conferences.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

Her tricks: 1. Imagination: draw your dream. write it and draw it -even if you're not good at drawing. 2. your identity is not fixed. You can create your identity. You can be anything you want. You are what you repeatedly say who you are. Don't be harsh on yourself. Think of yourself as a great person. 3. Fear. Feel the fear and do it anyway. 4. Use the fear as fuel. 5. Start. Focus your efforts in anything you do. As long as you do your best, you are likely to be rewarded. 6. Do not let them discourage you. People would do not believe in you, are talking out of their own fears. It has nothing to do with you. 7. Commit to your dreams. Persistence and commitment are the biggest key to success. Give your gig 100% effort/ability. Your identity is not fixed. You can be who you want to be.

It is a tool against prejudice because then you won't be judging every successful person thinking they had it easy, they just found their freedom in being determined to pursue their goals and dreams.

It is not enough to want something. You must be right about it in relation to yourself and to others. People are not supposed to dream even when they sleep. You must act consciously and realistically according to your talents and capacity.

I watched 3 videos of Xenia - 2 from youtube and 1 from University of St. Gallen I found her on instagram a couple years ago, I saw she participated in the TEDex and I was wondered what she was talking about because I was really interested of her as aperson who is an entrepreneur, knew 6 lanquages and is originally Russian as me. And now I'm a little dissapointed because in all these 3 videos she's talking only about herself, how she got popular and famous and about her achievements. Looking through her instagram stories where she was kind of admiring herself I suspected that she's kind of a vain and assertive person but I hoped that she's deeper than it seems. I can understand when you want to share your story with the world (not only with your friends and environment) but when you do it all the time especially at the TEDex where people share really new, interesting and useful ideas it was for me exactly what some of other commentors said: nothing new, just revising what already has been found. Unfortunately.

Her content is more of the same. Let's analyze her words and her actions: She describes in her IG 3 Ted talks, 6 languages and 1 economics degree. Despite what she uses to brag about herself, she knew to take her beauty into her advantage. Ok, that should count. She got fame when she was miss Switzerland, then study and started her blog which made her famous BUT is she a true inspiration and example? With her degree and "influence" she could be doing more but decided to dedicate her life to fashion and beauty because, well of course it is nicer... but she is not changing lives!! Not bad if you want to get FASHION AND BEAUTY inspiration but not for life. People are focusing much more on topics that don't really matter... don't get me wrong it is good to like fashion, beauty, luxury lifestyle if you want. But the world needs more than that to become better. It is still funny the fact that she thinks she will change the next women generation into smth more positive. Future women will go around all their lives thinking that success means lots of followers on social media, wearing branded clothes and being good-looking. All I perceive from this girl is egocentrism.
@renepiotrkowski214

also, truly clever and inspirational women, who are stunningly beautiful, do not even know the meaning of the word "fashion", go to check research centers, universities, banks or big companies where there are powerful and outstanding women, none of them cares about their look or fashion as they dont have time for that, and they still look hotter than this chick, and have much more to say.this is ridiculous

"Future women will go around all their lives thinking that success means lots of followers on social media, wearing branded clothes and being good-looking" That's precisely what most of modern female population aspires to. That's the ideal. But you'd probably act the same if you were in her shoes. The constant validation from likes and compliments... That isht gives your brain a shot of dopamine.

What is this? It made no sense to me. Kind of jumps around 5-8 different ideas and doesn't seem to really add any value. The title should just be "here is my story" as opposed to the loaded and slightly pretentious "Self determination is freedom and a tool against prejudice"
