Bloat is hard on cattle, coming from a 4-h cattle farm we cured bloat by taking the bottom jaw rope from a halter and putting in their mouth like a bit for a horse. It causes the cattle to chew making them burp to relieve the bloating!!!

I had a saddle horse like your team! Bad thing about him though his brakes didn't work until he was inside the barn. You had the watch to see what side of the barn Doar he was going to favor so you could lean off to the side in the other Direction. Many a time I thought, just bail off. I heard a quart beer bottle full warm water between the ears would take care of that breaking problem. Never got the opportunity to try it.

We lost a Derby contender Angus heifer in 1996. We were unloading semi trailers and she went right up on the back of the one in front of her and over the chute fence and ran away to the east. 2 of the guys went after her on 4 wheelers in a reasonable time. But nobody ever saw her again from our crew. It's really a rural area and we know everyone for miles around. Not sure where she got off to.

I've worked with concrete for a few years. You're going to learn something today. Should get a wheelbarrow, and don't use ready mix. Use portland, stone, and sand. Ratio 1 cement, 3 sand, 4 stone. Some like 1:4:4, but I always preferred the 1:3:4. If you wonder if it will last, you'll have to pull the posts with a tractor, or use a jackhammer. The cement you poured, bottom, with gravel fill, and a top layer, that will crack, and break away within a couple of years. Water will get down into the gravel layer, and if it freezes in your area of the world, it won't be long before that void of gravel becomes a nice place for water to push up against that cap of cement.
@sunstruckfarms4489
@sunstruckfarms4489 2 жыл бұрын
Yall must have some pretty inferior ready mix in your area if it just cracks in a few years and doesn't even work for fence posts
@heartattackjack9349
@heartattackjack9349 2 жыл бұрын
@@sunstruckfarms4489 Perhaps I should have clarified that ready-mix is expensive, and buying a pickup worth of sand and stone is just better priced. As to the cracking, snow and ice are a bugger to ready mix, and regular. The point is that the method of a gap with a stone filler is the problem. Water gets in, freezes, expands, and pops, or breaks that cap.

Love watching fields being cut!! The swallows were having a good ole' time catching the bugs you were kicking up. I bet the windshield needed a good cleaning after that mowing. LOL!! Thinking that baby cow needs to be named Forest!! I get points for that one!! LMAO!! Hope it found it's way home safely. Oh a crafty hint to fix your steering wheel issue, pool noodle. Pick up one at 99 Cent Store or Dollar Tree (or equivalent in your area), slice it down the length (not in half, just through the center hole to the edge). Slide it around your steering until it completely covers it, then cut. To secure, zip ties. Careful though, the cut edges of those can be sharp. Suggest a bit of duck tape over them. In the words of your dad ... That's all I have to say about that!! LMAO!! Have a great week!! Can't wait to watch your next adventure on the farm! Cheers!

I ran the swather for my brother in his custom cutting business. Lucky enough to start with a brand new New Holland 909...one of the first hydrostatic drive machines. Cab? BWAH-HAH-HAH! It did have a good sunshade. The steering was like a bicycle handlebar on a single upright. Push forward to go forward, pull back to reverse. Twist the handlebar, just like a bicycle...an extremely "twitchy" bicycle. In a rough field (aren't they all?) it was like driving a snake. White knuckles? Knowing a non-family member would be baling it... Actually it wasn't much better knowing my brother would be baling it. I've a great story of a first cut Timothy grass field along a beautiful creek...60 acres. It was beautiful. Some higjlights of the first round...that took six hours: - reciprocating/opposing sickle bars (yes, 2 bars)...no sickle guard where bars overlapped - cut a few yards...rocks, dead center - sickle sections attached with rivets - length of irrigation pipe, perpendicular to my travel (into the conditioner) - rocks dead center - fence post (w/barbed wire) forgotten after a repair - rocks, nearly dead center - grass along the creek tall to eye level on platform...so tall it entered conditioner before cut by sickle - lay underneath and hack away with carpet knife to cut free the conditioner rollers (more like spools) - having gone a couple of yards from second "hair cut," the reel loaded with less than pleased rattlesnakes - a few more yards, time for another (MORE frantic) hair cut - hair cut complete, hopped up quickly...sharpened corner of windrow fairing into my back, as if to remove a kidney. Sweatshirt as tourniquet. It didn't bleed much...a lie. Should have been stitched, but a great scar. - rocks, dead center a few yards later - about 50 yards further... - a few feet from completing first round, rocks dead center... I spun the swather 180°, grabbed my tools and in jumping to the ground (somewhat angrily)...drove my head into edge of sunshade/canopy. More startling than painful, though it did EFF-up my landing. Hah, I thought I had been pissed-off, but then...tools, sickle sections, RIVETS scattered. 🔥🔥🔥 I grabbed the ball peen hammer, jumped to my feet and proceeded to beat the livin' sh*t out of the header's spreader bar. With somewhat elevated voice I "described" my brother and the rancher...with less than complimentary terms. Yes, very disrespectful of mothers... It was nearly 100°, and my enthusiasm for "sculpting" waned fairly quickly. As I leaned on the spreader bar, I evaluated my work...confident my brother would not appreciate my talent. As a semi-calm filled my being, I heard a kind voice from behind me, "Would you like a glass of ice cold, fresh-squeezed lemonade?" 💩! Tom was one of the most nicest, great Christian men I have ever known. The hammer to my forehead seemed appropriate, but I was kinda tired... My (profuse) apologies were accepted...with a wry smile and understanding. He queried, "What do you think your brother's going to say about the header?" That reality somewhat replaced my humiliation with a kind of "no ****s to give" realization. I shrugged my shoulders, and bit my tongue. "Well, we'll soon find out." What? "He called while my wife made the lemonade, and I told him you were having a tough morning. I told him you might need some help, at least some cheering up. He said he would get here soon." Hmmm...a sudden return of ****s to give. So....stop whining about white knuckling with no auto-steer. Think scythe only...gulp?! Keep up the great work. The family farm life is to be treasured...the actor portraying Zach and family, the Cornstars, the Welkers, the Larsons and the Big Swede, Fast Ag Tony and crew, the Brian Brown family. You are all a great blessing. Grrr...the World Economic Forum GREAT RESET criminals must be crushed, punished for the chaos and destruction for which they're responsible. They're the driver of it ALL. They seek to end livestock ag by 2030...all ag by 2075? Synthesized food for "survivors" corralled in smart cities. It's mind boggling they don't feel threatened...needing to hide their intentions. Not politics...Good v. evil. What to do? DO NOT COMPLY! Civil disobedience is not an option...it is DUTY. Most important...🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 In Christ

Had the same issue with a past cars stealing wheel. Got a cheep cover from Wally world and that solved my hand cramping issues.

I once met a brilliant biophysist who discovered that the natural height of alfalfa can be ten feet. We ramped up the water soluble CA, P, and K toward the levels he suggested and that year with irrigation we got belt buckle high first cutting.

Thanks for the great video. It was interesting and enjoyable. Ok ok what is this all about having or not having auto steer-ha!!! I have to chuckle a bit Cole. Farmed a lot of years and never had it. You talked like it was just terrible to not have it. Got to tease you a bit. I am sure once you get used to it , it is hard to go back to doing the steering wheel. Oh well that is today’s technology. You got the hay cutting done in good time. Back to the farmstead and gate project. You are coming right along on that. Looks good and strong the way you are doing it. The new welder is a nice machine to have and portable which is great. You are a descent welder. Assuming you have some experience there or took some classes on welding. I never liked to weld for whatever reason. Good going Cole. About it I guess. You all take care and be safe. Looking forward to the next video. Thanks. The Iowa farm boy from years ago.

Beautiful Self propelled JD! I am looking at hopefully picking up a SP but an older one. Would be super nice freeing up a tractor at haying time🚜. Cheers 🍻 from Prairie Sunset Ranch.
