As a professional roofer, I had a customer who had me on his roof giving me directions as he was standing on the ground reading from a book on roofing. He had me seal the valley to stop a roof leak. It was the same scenario as this video where the chimney flashing had pulled away and was leaking. About a week later I got a call from him stating that the roof was still leaking. I informed him that the chimney flashing needed to be repaired. He asked me why I never told him about it while I was on his roof. I told him that he never asked me for my opinion. He had me come back to repair what needed to be done, this time allowing me to do my job without his "help".

Never ever take the advice of a homeowner. I’m the professional and I have a warranty to protect. I’ll do it their way but forget about a warranty if they are asking me to do things outside of the norm or against code

No lol. You see that big ass hole in the flashing and tarnac around the chimney? Water going in that every time it rains. Thousands of dollars worth of damage if you don't cover it up quick!
