Embark on a captivating journey through the diverse landscapes of Queensland, Australia's northeastern state. From the ancient rainforests of Daintree, home to the Southern Cassowary and Saltwater Crocodiles, to the sand dunes of the Simpson Desert. From the rainforests of Atherton Tableland, home to the Lumholtz Tree Kangaroo and the Platypus, to the geological wonders found deep in the Gulf Savannah. We explore the open woodlands of Magnetic Island where we find Koalas and Allied Rock Wallabies. We watch Green Turtles nesting on the beaches of Central Queensland before travelling to Southeast Queensland’s Border Ranges where we see Lamington Spiny Crayfish and Antarctic Beech Trees, both relics from ancient times. Join us on this unforgettable expedition as we uncover the natural wonders of Queensland.

Thank you. We need reminding of what a beautiful natural world we exist in, and to make sure that all the amazing animals/mammals/birds that we share this planet with are cared for and that their habitat is maintained for the benefit of all. Ecosystems are essential to all soul's wellbeing. So good to see areas of Queensland that most of us haven't visited. Blessings to you for such a great documentary. We're a dot in the universe... There's so much to see and explore yet we're obessed with the smallest trivial things. So locked in our small habits, routines, labour because we know no better... I feel so jealous of people who travel in the most remote places. It takes bravery and yes money but most of all bravery to let the plan start and let go of this mockery of a life we created for ourselves. Australia you're so immensely spiritual and beautiful...

With the initial tones of the soundtrack that resonates with the spirit, our eyes begin to feast on the sometimes incomprehensible, sometimes astonishing. Almost immediately, the familiar voice of Steve Chambers joins the audio/visual chorus and the adventure begins. We are transported into the depths of a world where neon coloured fish dance with green sea turtles and so begins yet another masterpiece from the incomparable Phil Selmes. This is an emotionally stirring work, brining highs and lows of fear and respect for the prehistoric nature of Australia in its Crocodiles and Cassowaries. Soon, though, the patriotic heart beats for the beloved Koalas, Bilbies and the like, showing that within the fauna, what is conceptually a direct reflection of the flora and landscapes, this alien world cannot be confined or contained to a single idea. Extreme diversity, the energetic nature of life itself, is expressed beautifully within this awesome 4K documentary. From precipice to sub-terrestrial caves, from Black Mountain to the Simpson Desert, once more my imagination is engaged and I am left, in the end, viscerally and vicariously satisfied. Thank you.

Thanks for watching Richard, I understand where you are coming from. As a documentary / filmmaker, I've pondered over getting the tone right for these films. Like you, I really enjoy watching nature documentaries, and i want to get lost in the fascination and wonders of the natural world. That's really what I'm trying to do here, I want people to care about the natural world. I'm trying not to be too heavy-handed about things, but I feel I would be doing these wonderful creatures a huge dis-service if I didn't include some facts about their plight. Take care mate, thanks watching and taking the time to leave some feedback. Cheers Phil

Magnifique !

Hi Manda, so lovely to hear from you again, hope you and the family are well. Glad you enjoyed this one too. Yes the Koalas are so cute aren't they? I have a 600mm lens these days which allows me to get some of those shots without getting too close. The reality is there is a heap of luck and just many, many hours searching and sitting in the heat and humidity waiting to get the perfect shot. There is nothing like the thrill of seeing these beautiful creatures living their lives in the wild though. We filmed that nesting Turtle on Chinaman's beach up at Agnes Waters at 1am after spending hours walking along the beach looking for thier tracks, that night was so cool.

Thanks for watching Cathy, there certainly is a lot of folklore around Black Mountain. As someone who has climbed over its boulders I can understand how if someone fell down between the cracks they might never be found. The cracks between the boulders can extend to 5 to 6 m down, if you fell down there and couldn't climb out nobody would hear your cries for help and it would be extremely difficult for anyone to see you. I didn't venture in too far for that reason and had a spotter with eyes exactly where i was the entire time.

There is a group called Australian Wildlife Conservancy that is doing amazing things. They have properties all over Australia that have predator fences to keep out feral cats, dogs, pigs and foxes. Once it is clear of these animals they start to release native animals. It's working really well so far and is only operating through donations.

Hi Phil.... congratulations on another great film. As you know, I am compiling footage here in Thailand in the hope of doing some similar films here. Recently, I've added a small behind-the-scenes camera and a drone and notice that these cameras and associated tutorials etc. lean heavily to 30fps shooting and multiples thereof. I have always shot 25fps and I imagine that you too come from a PAL background, but I'm now wondering whether I have to change to 30fps to make the editing process more streamlined. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the ideal specs, especially bearing in mind that the final look of the images will trump any post-production difficulties.
@IntotheWildFilms
@IntotheWildFilms Ай бұрын
Hi, always happy to share my experiences. Please feel free to email me directly at iwfilms10@gmail.com anytime and I'll get back to you as soon as i can. I use Premier Pro for editing and set up my timeline at 25FPS. These days i shoot all my footage camera, drone and GoPro at 25 FPS. But for this film some of my archive footage was shot at 30 FPS. Premier Pro will adjust 30FPS footage by dropping frames but, to me at least, it tends to look a little bit choppy. I adjust and 30FPS framerate to 25 FPS to keep the shot buttery smooth. In Premier Pro this can be done using the Modify function and selecting 'interprate footage as..... FPS'. I cant comment on other editing software. Its not something you 'have to' do but its what I do. The curse of being a perfectionist!!!. Hope this helps, feel free to drop me an email anytime. Best regards Phil

So a lake formed in what was once a volcanic crater. I have always wondered how fish and other aquatic creatures get into such a land-locked lake? How does that happen?
@IntotheWildFilms
@IntotheWildFilms Ай бұрын
Hi Melissa, great question, today Lake Eacham (the Crater Lake) has mainly introduced species that have unfortunately outcompeted the endemic species in the lake. To answer your question though, from what i can ascertain no one is 100 percent certain how the endemic species arrived in the Lake Eacham but is more than likely that thier eggs were transported from other water sources by birds. Fish eggs laid around reeds or other aquatic vegetation can become attached to the feet of wading birds which are then inadvertently transported to closed water bodies as they forage far and wide. I hope that answers your question. Thanks for watching, cheers Phil

Ants, dolphins, great apes and most monkeys,.., all this animals are known for making war, oppress or kill unecessarily other species, even their own. I am not a fan of humans either, but it would be foolish to think that cruelty and domination does not exist in other species. Even our cats are known to kill just for playing. I do think that evil is part of life, like its beauty😢
