Senators Merkley (OR) & Welch (VT) also voted against the bill. Sen. Merkley expressly stated he voted against the bill because of the provisions for bombs and other military equipment for Israel. I didn't see what Sen. Welch said, but his vote against the bill is in line with his support for a ceasefire and other statements.

It took him about four months to get to this conclusion, which is still weak. The aid and military support cut off should be something we take for granted. We should be sending our troops in at all of the access points to give a military escort to all of the humanitarian aid trucks. We should befriend and support the Palestinian people as a matter of U.S. foreign policy. We should also use our military to go into Gaza to protect the humanitarian organizations including UNRWA and UNICEF and a U.N. peacekeeping mission in addition to the Palestinians themselves, and by doing that, this would force a permanent ceasefire because we would be standing in the way. Perhaps more importantly, we should make a long-term commitment to rebuild and completely modernize the entire Gaza infrastructure. As for Israel, the U.S. should be aligned with most nations in the world who want to put sanctions and trade embargos on Israel until they make radical changes in how they deal with people, and if they are unable to make those changes, then they should be stripped of their statehood. It's that simple. When Bernie starts using this kind of language, I will be impressed.

It would be a far braver admission to point out that millions of us that suffer with disabilities from complex underlying conditions that are nearly impossible to diagnose getting denied SSDI based on that criteria. It may be short of bombs falling on our heads but they blow billions on corporate industrial gimmicks while we languish in poverty for decades on end. Our failure to stop doing business with a country that is committing horrifying atrocities should never be an excuse to derelict those who need help just as badly here. Death and pain can happen through neglect just as easily as a bomb or bullet. We have things going wrong here too. He's right as usual. Stop the weapons. We also need to stop trying to fix it. All we've ever done is make it worse. Stop pretending we have all the answers. This war will never end between these 2. If they're going to keep murdering each other they can do it without our help. People watch too many news segments about overcoming everything. Not every disability is overcome. Not every pain or problem is either. Most end up having to live with it. We just shouldn't have to do so in poverty & pain when we had a plan for that. This isn't a damned comic book. I wish more people understood that.

It may be wise not to demonize the entire country. When Trump was President, the vast majority of the US were NOT Christian Nationalists! Even if the majority in Izrl are, demonizing them all is not how you encourage people to educate themselves and change their minds. There are some there who do not agree with their gov, but if more of them are able to be open to what the rest of the world is seeing, it will bode better for our collective future (if they can vote in better leaders and pressure the current ones). What exactly is the state dept’s policy on investigating Israel’s activities in Gaza? is it “don’t ask, don’t tell”? is it “don’t write anything down”, “no paper trail”, “encrypted comms only”? Or is it as simple as “marco, polo”, or “blind man’s bluff” where the state dept chases after them with their eyes closed?
