Sessions had his prepared answer to that inevitable question, jumped the gun in giving his untrue statement, not only perjuring himself, but incriminating himself. That's the mistake of an incompetent person, reason enough to rescind his appointment. If Sessions didn't know what Mr. Franken was asking about, I don't want someone with those poor reasoning skills as the AG.

There should be another video of Franken reading the transcript which showed that it was not a gotcha question. This is serious stuff and I think Jeff Sessions thought he could say anything because he knew he was going to be confirmed. I wondered if I was the only person that noticed that Sessions had not answered the question put to him.

Correct. Sessions, essentially, volunteered a lie. it wasn't a "gotcha" question, nor a question that should have tripped up someone seeking confirmation to be the head of the US Department of Justice.

Senator Franken simply asked a question which senator sessions replied to with a lie. Asking a question that others may not like the answer to is not sedition.... Undermining the U.S. elections with a foreign nation, especially one considered inimical to the US is sedition. ' Thus far, evidence shows manafort, sessions, flynn, cushner, and a handful of other trump insiders speaking with russia after russia was identified as hacking the DNC and charged with interfering in the US election... Not surprisingly, each and every one of those ....characters of the trump wh and campaign denied talking with russia about anything... only admitting it after being exposed. This lying and collusion sure seems like sedition to me. These people could be charged with treason, sedition, conspiracy or any number of felonies, and disloyal donald trump can't be far behind. Please refute this without name calling or blaming President Obama or Secretary Clinton, who had absolutely nothing to do with the actions of the trump traitors.

Enough about the context of the question spin, he didn't answer the question he was asked, he volunteered information that proved false. Why did he do this, only Sessions can say, but why should anyone believe him? He did the right thing to recuse himself. He did so to save his career. Better to recuse himself than face perjury charges. Call it a plea bargain if you will, because he didn't seem to care about ethics even 8 hours prior to his speech.

It wasn't a 'gotcha question', but Sessions turned it into one and then offered up a lie in his answer to an unasked question. The question must have processed in Sessions' mind into, 'What will you do with yourself as AG under the circumstances?' Sessions got a smirky grin going and provided the information that he wanted to provide, which was also something that was not true.
