If you or a loved one uses a medical alert system, you need it to be reliable. But if you carry a portable system everywhere you go, you also want it to be small, light, and unobtrusive. The new Mini Guardian from Medical Guardian checks off all those boxes.
SeniorLiving.org wants you to have the facts on this sleek, new device so you can find the medical alert system that’s right for you. I’ll unbox and test the Mini Guardian, and list the features, pros, cons, and latest prices. I’ll explain who can benefit from this new, lifesaving device, such as active seniors.
Although the Mini Guardian lives up to its name by being small, it isn’t the smallest medical alert system on the market. In fact, it’s not even the smallest emergency response device made by Medical Guardian! That designation goes to the Freedom Guardian smartwatch. But because it’s worn on the wrist, it can’t provide Fall Detection. The Mini Guardian can. The other two portable medical alert systems offered by Medical Guardian are the Mobile Guardian, which can be carried in your purse or pocket, or worn on your belt. And the smaller Active Guardian, which is worn around your neck as a lanyard.
Who needs an on-the-go system, like the Mini Guardian? Mobile seniors who leave the house alone, who are still driving or taking public transportation, biking, walking, shopping, exercising, visiting friends, volunteering, and enjoying life’s activities. Those of us who have a condition that could require immediate medical attention, whether they’re home or out. And people who are prone to falling.
During stressful times, being able to call for help with a simple touch of a button can make all the difference. Unlike 911, the call center has your information, so they know who’s calling and your medical situation. You can even call for non-emergency help as well. And, with fall detection, the Mini Guardian will call for help even when you can’t. Let me tell you how this state-of-the-art equipment can protect you… or a loved one.
Even though it’s small enough to wear on a lanyard around your neck, this technological tiny titan still manages to squeeze in a smorgasbord of fantastic features, including:
* Three different location technologies.
* 4G Technology for improved communication. Many medical alert systems still rely on the slower 3G technology.
* A battery that will power the unit for up to 5 days.
* It’s water-resistant, so you can wear it in the shower.
*And besides HD Speakers with Noise-Canceling functionality, microphone, and emergency call button, the Mini Guardian also includes built-in Fall Detection! The unit contains an accelerometer which constantly calculates whether you’ve fallen. If the high-tech device determines that you have, it dials the call center proactively. They’re not 100% accurate, but they could mean the difference between life and death.

My experience with MG was not good. After spending a looooong time on the phone trying to get the Mini activated with no success, they concluded it was defective and said they'd overnight me another one. AFTER boxing it up, the next morning I had my local fire/rescue ambulance backing into my driveway???? Needless to say, I'm afraid to even open the box on the replacement let alone charge it, it just sits and gathers dust. And I prepaid about $600 for this........customer service has given me the run around since. Oh, and the overnight ship took 5 days!

Same thing happened to me. Fall detection stopped working for me and when I called MG, they said I never had it!!! I know i had it because several times, I had dropped it and was embarrassed to tell them that it wasn’t an emergency but it had fallen out of my hand. Next year it will cost me $671 to renew my subscription. That is too pricey for me. Looking into a Smart Watch.

Jeff, I just purchased the Mini Guardian I find it very annoying that it flashes blue about every 20-30 seconds, especially at night when it makes it kind of difficult to fall asleep since it is so bright. Is this normal for the mini? I like the fact that it is so small. However, while it is charging at night, or any other time, I am without the protection. Particularly at night when I have to go to the bathroom; I am 86 years old and this occurs often during the night. It is a pain having to remove the device from the cradle to take with me. If there was a button I could wear while I was charging the device, it would be much better. Does any other company you could recommend have a small device with the features that would suit my needs any better?

Not all medical alert devices are made equal. that is why we review multiple brands so you can make a more informed decision.

The flashing of the blue light every 30 seconds everywhere you go is very annoying. Plus you have to remove the device and hide it if you go to the theater; the flashing blue light makes it look like a strobe light and makes you a walking target 😢😢 do not recommend this device. I agree with the first review.

In your own words you said that in an emergency every second counts. My patent beats Medical Guardian by crucial seconds by unlocking the door in such a at home emergency. Understandably the Mini isn't an art that is new.

Sorry but I had medical guardian for about 8 months now NO don't get it...they changed their procedure when you call the call center DOES NOT PICK UP an auto dialer picks up 1st then questions is this a real emergency and do you need to be connected to the response team which is a real person to me is waisting precious seconds then it's transfered to a real person to take your call you can pass out in the second too much time waisted I could have called 911 and got it quicker why pay 500.00 a year and 911 free very disappointed a was shim shamed
