Generally speaking, yes, more RF power will provide additional coverage in terms of distance, but doubling the power will get you about 1/4 more coverage. For longer range applications, ensuring you have the best possible antenna set-up (I.e. not letting it touch the body, same polarization orientation and like of sight wherever possible) will improve your experience. The increased power is ideal to get a cleaner, stronger signal to your receiver which will provide you with better RF performance.

While they share the same form factor, the main differences are: The SKP 500 can provide +48V phantom power, which makes it more flexible for use with condenser microphones (like the MKH 416 or MKH 8060 shotgun mics) in wireless boom applications. The SKP 100 doesn't provide phantom power, so it's usually used with either dynamic handheld mics for interviews or reporting, or with a shotgun mic that can be battery powered, like the MKE 600. The 500 Series also provides various RF output power levels (10/30/50 mW), so you can get greater coverage and a stronger signal in tough RF environments, or more channels on air using the lower power option... which leads into the other really important difference: bandwidth. The 500 Series offers up to 2x the bandwidth of the 100 Series by covering up to 88 MHz, which means it can tune to up to 3,520 different frequencies. This can become extremely important if you're in major cities with a lot of RF congestion or on a production set with a multi-channel set-up. @@JoeTheViewer Thanks, i bought a K-Tek boom pole with internal XLR and just plugged the receiver onto the boom pole itself, its not a locking xlr though but it works

The main difference is that the SKP 500 G4 has 2.5x the tuning bandwidth (up to 88Mhz vs 32 MHz with G2), which can be critical if you're in an area with a lot of wireless (i.e. major cities); it also features switchable RF Power (10/30/50mW) whereas the SKP 500 G2 was a fixed 30mW. Either of these can be used with the MKE 600 and - in fact - the MKE 600 can be powered via Phantom Power or with a single AA battery. If you're planning to use a plug-on transmitter, it's definitely worth checking out the latest addition to the portfolio: EW-DP. There's a new SKP plug-on (EW-DP SKP) for use with Evolution Wireless Digital that also offers an on-board recorder with removeable MicroSD, phantom power, switchable low cut, XLR and 3.5mm input.
