A new generation BMW M3 and M4 is a major event in the world of sports cars. We went to the fantastic Gotland Ring to test drive the entire BMW M program, first out is of course the new M3/M4 developed in parallel with the M4 GT3 race car.
The standard version develops 480 hp. The Competition, that we drive, has a whopping 510 hp on the rear wheels via an eight-speed Steptronic. A 4WD M xDrive version will be available later this summer and if you want a manual gearbox, you can have it, but you have to "settle" with 480 hp and RWD.
Aside from the controversial new design, the newcomer has a lot of electronics that will make the car even more at home on a racetrack, M Drive Professional with for example M Drift Analyzer, M Laptimer and 10 steps M Traction Control.
With the M Race Track Package, the car gets 25 kilos lighter and you get carbon fiber bucket seats, ceramic brakes and special light alloy wheels.
Peder has never owned a BMW - is he finally getting hungry now? Is this the optimally sensible sports car? Is it good locking? What does BMW mean? And, most importantly, can it drift?
All this and much more, as usual, in this episode of Sense & Sensibility - the show that tells nothing but the truth. Chief editor of Swedish car magazine auto motor & sport, Alrik Söderlind, and columnist Peder Karlsson have very different views on cars - which makes this series so interesting.
