Hi Joseph, from the depths of winter in Christchurch New Zealand. Watching your post, of this most beautiful, of Triumphs 1300, brought back wonderful memories of my great Uncle Bob, who proudly owned a 1300 Triumph. He allowed me to drive his beauty around the Cheshire countryside in 1981, on a holiday from New Zealand. Watching your post, brought back such fond memories of that time, I so enjoyed reconnecting to my family at that time. Infact, Triumph cars became an obsession & now I am the proud owner of a 1977, Triumph 2000TC with power steering & overdrive. Thank you Joseph for your most enjoyable post.

Yes, I think the 2000s/2.5 PIs/2500s were quite successful in Australia from what I understand. Your Uncle Bob's car would have been quite old by 1981, but there were still plenty of these around by then, as evidenced by two different 1300s being used in two episodes of The Professionals, which were made in 1980. I really want to try a 2000, actually.

@@lloydvehicleconsulting I look forward to that. I belong to the Christchurch Triumph Owners Club, here in New Zealand. Over 100 members with a variety of the Marque that would make your eyes water.

Sir, a 60s vehicle with full synchromesh gearbox, inertia reel seatbelts, and brakes that are not too terrible. Overall, quite a handsome car that seems to be surprisingly easy to live with today.

Sir, it would be even better if it was the TC version with a bit more power and servo assisted brakes. As it was, this car is exceptional.

What a charming little car! I think both the exterior and interior designs are pleasing. I find Italian design flair is often successful. The Smiths instruments are great and that full width shelf must be very useful.

It was a very nice car, although I think the later Dolomite does have slightly better proportions.

A fine example Joseph. Reminds me of the Triumph family of vehicles from that era. Fond memories of Dolomite and T2000, with good build quality. Shame everything went wrong thereafter.

Yes sir, a really charming car, which I thoroughly enjoyed! I liked it more than I expected, actually. Thank you again for watching.

The 'reminder panel' 1st appeared on the 1300 and then used on many later cars. Lovely car. 😊

Very nice! Interesting to learn that the engine came from Standard.

Yes, originally used in the Standard Eight in 1953, but subsequently modified and enlarged.

What a fantastic car. Looks even better in this pale blue. Give the engine configuration and layout, I wonder of a Saab 900T16 engine swap would work. A 175bhp 1300 would be awesome.
@lloydvehicleconsulting10 күн бұрын
Yes, not so much in these front wheel drive 1300s, but in something like a Dolomite, with rear wheel drive, you could try putting in a Saab H engine. I think it has been done already.
@robertallen34417 күн бұрын
The other oddity of the 1300 is that the starter ring gear is on the front of the crankshaft rather than the flywheel.
@lloydvehicleconsulting6 күн бұрын
The starter is very, very noisy, it is unusual in that respect.

@@lloydvehicleconsulting no, definitely not sold here. We did, however, get the Dolomite but, from memory, only the Sprint and only in yellow. Really enjoyed your video of the car and I have watched Steph’s videos on her car as well.

Yes, I used to own a Dolomite 1500 SE from 1980, and I drove a 1974 Dolomite 1850 in 2022. Both most enjoyable. This was a surprisingly nice car, the video doesn't even really do justice as to the condition, ether.

You didn't mention it, but I believe this model has the fully adjustable steering column - very rare then in a small car (carried over to the up-market Dolomites).

Still an elegant-looking car, and I actually knew someone who down on their income went from a Jag to one of these. Although if it had been say a Ford I doubt if their bean counters would have tolerated it flipping back and forth between FWD and RWD, but of course it was built with public money.

Yes, an interesting choice in re-engineering them so that they were "less complicated" between 1970, when the Toledo was launched, and 1973 when the 1500 TC came out. The re-engineering did indeed happen in the British Leyland years...
