This ballade is not only difficult techically; it is difficult to convey a musical narrative straight through it. This performance is superb.

속에 가지고 있는 섬세하고 깊은 감정들을 전부 표현해 낼 수 있는 테크닉이 대단하다 그 감정 그대로를 파워와 부드러움을 완벽하고 조화롭게 담아서 표현한다는게 말도 안되는거같음

저 피아노에 감정이있다면 조성진이 앉아서 연주하자마자 제일 행복했을듯 If there's an emotion to that piano I think Sung-jin Cho was the happiest as soon as he sat down and played

What an extraordinary performance by the young Seong-Jin Cho! He turns this often neglected ballade into a masterpiece! How skillfully he uses his impeccable sense of phrasing, his colorful variety in tone color, his intensity in the use of stretto as he portrays the drama inherent in Chopin's ballade. Each time I listen I realize anew how remarkable this performance is and I want to shout Bravo!

you hear that? that was the clearest coda ive ever heard, he touched every single notes and how could he manage to make it sounds so clear and perfect? and i'd forever be amazed at how he interpret every piece he play. he pour his heart into the piece and boom! majestic! he's just the best imo.

I gotta disagree on this one. His coda is clean, and his overall interpretation is brilliant. I can't do better, that's not my point. But he kinda cut out the end of each phrase and it's a bit disappointing to hear every time. Go and listen to Zimmerman (not on KZfaq, but on a recording like on Spotify or whatever), I have to say his interpretation of each of the ballads is among the best - if not the best - of all the ones I've heard to this point (and I've heard a whole lot of them). But I agree on the fact his repeated chords are incredibly clear and precise and that the performance is great!

I’m sure you misunderstood their comment. The statement was, “cleanest coda ~I’ve~ ever heard.” How do you disagree with someone’s personal experience? He never claimed Seong Jin Cho was the best person who played this piece; this was the best version they have heard. So for you to come in and start spouting your “But, Zimmerman” comment is just unnecessary. We get it. You like Zimmerman. I like him too. But is this his performance? Is this ballade his song? Why bring him up especially when the original person didn’t even mention them? The original comment was meant to praise Seong Jin Cho, and him only. Ugh I hate music elitists that don’t allow people to enjoy different interpretations “because Zimmerman’s interpretation was actually...” and all that. Just say you like zimmerman’s version better and leave it at that.

@@thaitea1833 well i did, and i still do. And i love both of em. But theres something in cho's interpretations of Chopin ballades that makes me adore him more. Idk, since im not an expert at classical music or music in general, and im not a pianist as well. But i really adore Zimerman!:)

순간적인 타이밍, 강약의 대비와 시간을 늘렸다 줄였다를 잘하네요. 말로 설명하긴 힘든건데, 그 느낌적인 느낌을 잘 살립니다. 테크닉이 전제 되어야 가능한건데 테크닉만으로는 안되는거죠. 힘빼고 치는거 정말 잘하네요. 순간적인 변곡점을 잘 만드네요. 힘을 빼었기때문에 대비가 잘되기도 하고 순간적인 파워를 내는것도 효율적으로 할 수 있으면서 대비가 명확히 됩니다. 아주 좋습니다.

왜 조성진군이 2번을 택했는지 알것같아요. 어떤면에서 성진군의 성격을 잘 표현해주는 작품같네요. 영롱하고 이지적인 연주 가운데 난데없이 불쑥불쑥 끓어오르는 뭔가가 느껴지는거?

He didn't rush the climax at all. Instead, he took at relatively slowly and more deeply, less power but more introspective or reflective. A very smart approach

Chopin's Ballade in F major Op. 38. My favorite of Cho's interpretations in 2015 Chopin competition. Beside the perfection of the techniques, beauty, sadness, fire are all there.

아무리 돌고 돌아도 종착지는 조성진이다 … 아무리 생각해도 피아노는 파워가 중요한게 아니라 음과 음 사이의 곡선이 중요하다

BRAVO! A GREAT performance. The best I have ever heard of this particular ballade, which in the past I have found to be one of Chopin's least satisfying compositions. Its all superb, but he plays the "easy" arts with a rare degree of interest, cinvcitiin and attention to detail. BEAUTIFUL and very TOUCHING!

It was a really intense performance. It's a very good representation of the duality of the calm and the radicality of the song. I was especially overwhelmed by Koda's performance. It was a great performance.

I'm not a pianist, but I adore most of Chopin's works. My favorite interpretations of most of these pieces have to be from Rubinstein. But I feel like exploring more artists, and in my opinion, Cho captivates the essence very well. Have to check out this pianist a little more. Fantastic interpretation, he wins his place among my top interpreters!

Rubinstein... On Chopin ? erk.. Zimerman is the Chopin reference. Cho is just getting as good as him, with a slightly more delicate playstyle. There's a ton of pianists who can technically play Chopin, playing it like Chopin on the other hand... Well at least Rubinmonk isn't one of them.

@@rowanwild8445Greetings Zimmerman worshiper, almost everyone praises him because of his incredible tone production and perfect “to the score” interpretation, however, is that all music is? Mere perfection, cleanness, and a extreme subscription to what the elite considers ideal? I would disagree. Bring on the pedal, bring on the unevenness and roughness, bring in the excessive exaggeration. Music is meant to evoke the emotions, to be delicate, gentle, to contrast, to express the wide range of human emotion and experience, not to be a perfected, detailed marble spectacle that’s only purpose is to serve as a dry, reference recording, devoid of individuality.
