Really don’t see any reason to upgrade to 12. it’s basically just Xplane 11 with updated airports, and more trees.

To everyone wishing XP12 was an entirely new sim, this is not how the XP development cycle has ever worked. It’s always been a work in progress with continual updates. It’s just incredible Austin is still putting as much steam into XP as he did back in the early 2000s and late 90s. Every update has always just been a step above the previous version. It’s always a continuous update throughout the XP versions.

nice comparisson. I´m more interested in knowing if there are palpable differences in flight dynamics (especially in GA aircraft where it is more perceivable). from the footage there (even though it was not long) it doesn´t seem there is a difference. plus, did I perceive a drop in FPS in the Cessna part of the video compared to XP12? if so could you say how much? cheers

Great work Micah! Thank you for those comparisons. I noticed several differences, like more detail filled in on XP12 (houses near the airport in XP12, vs random roads in XP11) but from a standpoint of realism the biggest differences I saw were... 1. The gray scale was tripled or quadrupled on XP12 over XP11. At least that's the term used in the video world. With XP11, there seems to be about 5 levels of brightness: dark, bright, and 3 levels of brightness in between. This makes an image decidedly lacking in dynamics and in my opinion plays as much a part in video realism as resolution. XP12 shows many more levels of brightness and gets much closer to reality as a result. One of the areas where you see this is the brightness of trees compared to the ground they're on. They look to have identical brightness in XP11, not to mention better coloration of the trees in XP12. 2. We all knew it was coming but in XP11, when you get close to trees, they're obviously comprised of two 2D images that intersect at 90º to each other, whereas with XP12, they look like real 3D objects. 3. The sounds in XP11 sound good until you hear XP12 and then, by comparison, it seems as if XP11 has a noise floor that, while you don't really hear the noise floor, still has an impact in that the sound effect of the engines just seems to rise up out of that murky noise floor and then still be heard a little muddily within that noise floor. In XP12, there is virtually no noise floor, so all you hear are the sound effects. 4. When the airplane passes the observer on the ground, there is virtually no transition of sound between the turbines coming toward you and when they are going away from you. I'm not so much referring to a Doppler effect as I am how the turbine sounds when you're looking at the intake vs looking at the exhaust end. In XP11 it almost instantaneously changes from the intake sound to the exhaust sound, whereas in XP12 you have more of a sense of that transition. And this is just the Beta folks! Really looking forward to ongoing improvements and the impact of adding scenery, airports, and aircraft from 3rd parties. As far as what I care most about, the physics of external factors on the aircraft, the performance characteristics of the aircraft itself, and the accuracy with which control inputs affect control surfaces, that is, how useful is XP12 as a legit flight simulator for flight training... we are already MORE than there and THAT is awesome!!

After testing XP 12, I can only warn everyone. Addons not working, payware airliners upgrades necessary ($$$), BSS soundpacks not working at all, XPilot not working, microstutters, clouds are sometimes horrible (looks like cheese cake, glacier, mashed potatoes), clouds are flickering like hell. Bottomline: if you expect to have a flawless flight like in XP 11, you will be in for a bad surprise. I can only recommend to wait 3-6 months until everything is sorted out.

Great comparisons. It kinda reminds me of the Sims and after a few years going back to watch the cities grow up and flourish.

It's a lot better, that new lighting model alone makes a world of a difference.

Great comparison video. I'll certainly subscribe. Could you do a lighting comparison when you get the chance please. It's so helpful seeing it in split screen. I love XP 11 and the demo of XP 12 doesn't give enough to decide whether to buy. 20 mins is too short to do anything.

A miracle in both versions - cars parked on top of a building with no ramp opening to get them there (see 60 seconds in). As always with a new release, I wonder about the demand on the GPU.

This is where the comparison should be done, I think too many people are putting it up against MSFS and are ending up disappointed because one has satellite scenery and the other doesn't...

I used Enhanced Skyscapes and some light enhancements to make X-Plane 11 look like X-Plane 12.

download XP12 demo and I absolutely love it. Understanding this a beta and it will get better, cant wait till 3rd party vendor start designing new sceneries or updating existing ones for XP12.

Use all 3 sims but honestly after how lack luster xp12 seems to be currently I think alot of people will be moving to P3D or MSFS only

On the sound between XP11 and XP12 I cannot hear any difference on the 737 model.. Granted the new A330 sounds wonderful, but for Zibo users I cannot help but think they should have improved the FMOD for this early release?

I have Xplane 11 and I tried the Xplane 12 demo, and I found no reason to upgrade especially for such a price.

I love xplane always have and xplane 11.9 I mean 12 is nice but for me it feels more like a next step to xp11 more than a new simulator. The improvements are great minus the clouds and the lightning I wish they changed. It feels more like an update than new SIM for me still a great SIM mind and hopefully improves more over the development cycle.

I think X Plane 12 has been a disappointment. You can do these visuals (xrealistic), sounds, driving dynamics (ezdok camera) much better in X Plane 11 with plugins. I'm looking forward to the Steam price and add-ons. Because trying to sell things that should be better than MFS 2020 as a special feature would be nonsense.

My orthos work in xp12 and look even better than in 11. I agree the clouds need work but are way better than default 11. I’ve only seriously flown the Cessna 172 in 12 but I can say that it’s flight model is better in 12, very similar imho to the xp11 version with sim coders REP. And I do have some but not a lot of real world experience to base off. Is X-Plane 12 just v11 upgraded? Sure, in the same way v11 was an upgrade to v10. And is it a cash grab, yes, but Laminar has been open about it still being an early access public beta. Development takes time and most importantly, money, and while Austin Meyers my be doing well for himself, I’m pretty sure he’s not rich enough to keep paying Laminar staffs salaries indefinitely, so an early access beta being released to recoup costs is just good business sense.

Any idea what the framerate was like in Xplane 12? Xplane 11 looks buttery smooth, whereas Xplane 12 looks really choppy. I've seen other videos where the FPS counter was quite high (60FPS+) and yet the frame pacing was all over the place.

The X Plane 12 demo was terrible, does x plane 12 come with autogate?

Can anyone comment on frame rate and flight dynamics. The eye candy is all nice until your frame rate hit 20FPS or less. I am guessing because of the lack of moving cars, etc, it's the reason why the FPS in XP11 is so superior in comparison. I bought XP12. Thinking of buying XP11 instead. Cheaper than a new GPU.

It clearly looks better but we are spoiled by the graphics of MSFS therefore I'm still not satisfied. They should have gone with a Google Maps based solution in order to seriously compete with Microsoft. It's a pity...

XP12 has better lighting effects, that's what make a better quality in visuals overall.

I have been an instructor pilot of light and ultralight aircraft for over 35 years, and I honestly do not believe that the graphics of the FS 2020 scenarios are adequate for the real training of light and ultralight aircraft pilots. Microsoft thought it (rightly) for those who want to play and not for the training of pilots. for this reason it is much better to take the realism of the X-Plane flight model and build on it autonomously dedicated scenarios. As has been done successfully with the Italian project of the "VFR ESTREMO". In this case, a synthesis of the advantages of the two simulators was obtained. maximum realism of the flight model and maximum realism of photorealistic scenarios.

OMG 🙄 it looks x-plane 12 sceneries are hazier than x-plane 11, also whenever we switch the weather to raining and cloudy weather the weather dosen't change on left and right monitors views , and also we still can't see prop and wings whenever we vanish the cockpit of aircraft, we homemade cockpit users rather use our own cockpit but still need to see the prop on middle monitor and wings on two side monitors.

After realizing, I have to stream the scenery with MSFS, in order to see it, I run to X-Plan and feel its a safer investment with addons, now i am watching these videos to learn as much as i can, does anyone know if you can have 11 and 12, on the same hard drive?

XP12 is a step up, but it's taking XP from the 1980s to the 1990s. Meanwhile MSFS is light years ahead.

As a long time user of X-plane, I'm not seeing enough to make me want to upgrade. More to the point, I'm going to lose the aircraft I paid for to use on X-Plane 11. I note X-Plane is silent on aircraft and when I look at the videos , usless videos I might add because they fail to show the instrument flying side of things or how any needed improvements were NOT done for X-Plane 12 Whats really frustrating is if you want high frame rate in X-plane 11 you can't have that with high definition graphics. X-Plane 12 appears to be similar to X-Plane 11 with the graphics turned up to max. I'm disapointed. This is really like an additional version of X-Plane 11 and sold off as X-Plane 12.

I can't see how people say X-Plane 12 is the most realistic flight sim game. When I play X-Plane 12 I just think of how much better looking the aircraft, the graphics, and how msfs feels like the real thing. X-Plane 12 just feels dull.

The XP12 world definitely looks "richer" but it is an evolutionary step, unlike the huge (albeit imperfect) revolutionary step of MSFS. Not sure it is worth the full asking price...I will probably wait for a deeply discounted price on Steam

It's XP12 is XP11 with a little eye candy, if ortho works and looks as in XP12 as in XP11? What gives? Clouds tech still looks crap. Flight dynamic is worsen now as it ages. XP12 seems still uses Blade element theory. This flight dynamics calculating tech is pretty old. Haven't found CFD visualisation option. P-Factor with Perf. Data on MSFS more accurate there. So, we are paying XP11 twice as these changes can be easily moded, clouds tech API has been removed so yea... Cash grab

why are you doing this? XP12 is XP11.. look at the base engine and code, its XP11 with a few tweaks and a heck load of new Bugs and Many stutters! they needed cash to keep their pockets full and cooked this idea up that XP12 is a new sim. it's not!! im so glad i got a full refund and downloaded a free copy from the web that updates. sim should be shelved under the year 2018
