Greetings from Germany/ Bavaria, big respect for the balancing on this small edge, you made the jokes funny and real enough without talking around it. Nice to see that these things get called out and i hope the people wont forgot why we get remebered and tought so much about the whole past of germany, its for us to understand how to avoid getting there again. Its for us to learn out of the mistakes that took place back then and to never ever go back this way again.

@@larryd1344 There were was almost no international law to speak of. Jews were often rid of nationality and were actually "illegal". Truth be told, they were "illigal" even in non-Nazi countries like Switzerland. But that is not my point. My point is, WE DECIDE what is wrong and what is right. Crossing borders illegally sure is a crime, but how much of choice these people really had? You wouldn't want your kids to grow up in a place where they might be killed or raped. I don't want to get into an argument here, but we must try to understand these people if we are to solve all these problems. All considered, separating parents from the children and putting them into a detention centre with worse than prison condition. That's just sad and I feel sorry for those kids.

@@matousstastny3027 I see your point. Laws are made by people and are not infallible. I also understand those trying to get a better future for them self and their children. Tom Pratticus Laws are not absolute. This is what many of you fail to understand. It used to be the Law that a black man couldn't own property, nor that a woman could vote. But those were amended when we realize that they were WRONG. Criminalizing asylum seekers and ripping their children from them to be used as a later bargaining chip is WRONG. (Especially since they are fleeing gang violence and government corruption that are the results of American meddlings in their government from 1970s-1990s). The immigration laws need to be ammended to reflect the times we live in and take accountability for the mess we have created in central America when the U.S back rebel groups against democratic elected governments.

If those that say that, knew how the real world works and the circumstances these people lived under (murder threats, gang violence, rape, extorsion, etc) they would understand why these people take such risks to come here and maybe, just maybe give their kids a chance at life, a decent safe life, so for all of you that speak out of hate and racism, I hope you and your kids never have to live under similar shitty conditions that would make you seek shelter and then have those you ask for help turn their backs on you. Sparky Fire "Then have the parents go to a legal point of entry." You say that like people aren't being turned away and/or physically blocked from stepping foot on US soil at the legal points of entry already. They are making it difficult af to cross legally and making asylum seekers basically choose between being stuck on the Mexican side of the border or crossing illegally so they can finally request asylum. And then we have the administration promising to prosecute "fraudulent" asylum claims while simultaneously changing what a valid asylum claim is.

People don’t know how difficult it is to come/stay here legally. I came to America on a 6 month visa, with paperwork ongoing for at least a work permit. The paperwork was never looked at and after my visa expired, the process was automatically cancelled and I became an “illegal alien”. I finished school here and couldn’t afford to even go to a community college because I would be charged as an international student coming from abroad, which almost doubled tuition. After 15 years living here illegally I finally received a work permit thanks to the dream act. But even after that, it doesn’t get any easier. Applying for citizenship is basically impossible even for me who has been here for so long, since I apparently don’t qualify to even start the process. They never tell you why you don’t qualify either. The only known way to receive citizenship is to invest a certain amount of money into a business here in America, which if you have enough money for that, you wouldn’t need to move here. Having only a work permit removes my illegal status but doesn’t do anything else. I don’t qualify for any government assistance, any healthcare (unless provided by workplace) and as it seems so hard for people to believe, we pay taxes just like anyone else. Also, for all family members that have passed away since I’ve been here, I could not attend their funeral because my uscis ID cannot be used to re-enter the country. I would have to try to get a visa again, and even that has become practically impossible to get nowadays.

Nope, your problem is not party politics. All other countries have parties but few are so inhumane, and bemoaning the existence of parties ignores the structural reasons necessitating their formation. Actually there are several independent problems at the heart of the current American political crisis, but here are the two biggest: (1) First-past-the-post elections, which (unless strong local traditions sustain local majorities of more than two flavours) naturally lead to a corrupt bipartisan system (there are only two large parties which pretend that there are only two answers to every question, and collude both to keep third parties down and to divide the spoils of corruption while battling each other over fake issues). Case in point: in the USA, both times a bipartisan system collapsed (the last time prior to the Civil War), a new one quickly took its place. (2) At the end of a long, slow, but deliberate and wide-reaching erosion of rational public discourse (including the transformation of the media and education), one of the two parties (including the overwhelming majority of its voters) went completely insane, without most people on the other side fully realising it (at least not until recently). It would be lazy and totally wrong to draw an equivalence between the two parties in their present-day state, and the assumption that Republican voters are basically decent people only misled by bad politicians is a naive (but collective) self-delusion.

The real story that needs to get out is why the gangs have such a stranglehold on Central America and it is much different from that of Mexico and Colombia. They were originally migrants arrested here in the US in the 70's and 80's, often for low level crimes such as selling weed, and weaponized in prison when they created or joined gangs to defend themselves against black and white supremacist gangs. They were then deported when they got out to countries with police forces nowhere near equipped to handle them. In a matter of time they were essentially in control of daily life for most residents from whom they drew new members at will and by force, and at that point they controlled a massive portion of the trafficking routes which funnel drugs from South America to Mexico on their way to the US. We helped create this monster but are willfully ignorant of our part in it.

When I was young my mom and dad were both arrested, and my sister and I were taken to a receiving home. We were strip searched and checked for marks. I knew nobody there other than my sister, and her and I were separated. We were born in U.S... The separation of children from parents who commit a crime is nothing new. It happens every day in the States in staggering #'s under the guise of Family 'Court', CPS and title IV funding. For profit. Nothing is ever said... Now Trump (didn't vote for him btw) has signed a new policy where illegal immigrants will be deported without a hearing immediately. Which is basically sending the message "If you want to cross the border, bring a kid. If u get caught crossing, we'll give u a ride back home! Try, try again!" And when babies start getting kidnapped by border crossers, I'm guessing Trump will get the blame then too.The United States already has one of if not THE easiest borders to legally cross. No country on Earth has completely open borders! So the United States had 'baby sitting' facilities for immigrant children? Some of you act as if they're running Nazi conservation camps!! Why do we make such a fuss and demand better treatment for non citizens than we get as legal citizens? I really wish we could get this kind of an uproar and demand for change for the millions of children being unjustly torn from their families for profit Within our borders! I just don't get it...

This is me just spit-balling but If I was any of those migrants that had their children illegally detained, I would contact my family (if I had any here) then my country consulate (or whomever) and form a class action law-suit against the U.S. for illegally separating / detaining children without due process. Migrants can do this b/c a few years back Republicans passed this retarded legislation: Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act, or JASTA - in short, it was a bill that allowed families to sue Saudi Arabia for their part in the 9/11 terrorist attacks, with the drawback of weakening U.S. sovereign immunity. To wit: JASTA authorizes federal courts to exercise personal jurisdiction over any foreign state's support for acts of international terrorism against a - U.S. NATIONAL - or property REGARDLESS of whether such state is designated as a state sponsor of terrorism or not. What constitutes international terrorism? The U.S. Code of Federal Regulations defines terrorism as "the unlawful use of force and violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives" (28 C.F.R. So if you're ordained as a U.S. citizens with family that have had your children illegally separated / detained by OUR government I dare say it's highly probable you could sue the United States. But that's just me spit-balling.

They are fleeing oppressive situations where their lives and safety are threatened if they do anything to protect themselves or -- heaven forbid -- protest the policies of whoever is in power (corrupt government, gangs, cartels). So it's extremely unlikely they're going to rock the boat in the country that they're trying to escape to. Would you? It's a fantasy to think they would have the wherewithal to do what you suggest. In 1994, Trump went to a party with Jeffrey Epstein, a billionaire who was a notorious registered sex offender, and raped a 13-year-old girl that night in what was a "savage sexual attack," according to a lawsuit filed in June 2016 by "Jane Doe." The account was corroborated by a witness in the suit, who claimed to have watched as the child performed various sexual acts on Trump and Epstein even after the two were advised she was a minor. But it's the Democrats that are rapist child fuckers, riiiiiight. Literally stealing children and no one knows where they are or their future. Actual pizzagate, but it's the democrats who are bad guys. Who is brainwashed again?

I think we should offer a program in Mexico sand other countries that teaches Mexicans etc who want to be American the English language and other basic lesions to help them assimilate better with them entering the military after the course because it’s one of the quickest ways someone can earn citizenship (and no not sent to go jump on a land mine or bay of pigs but the father can be in the coast/national guard and the mother can be a nurse or secretary in the navy which also allows the child to come in America too) and I have many family members that served in the military and many others that joined to earn citizenship and we should also stomp out decent by enabling a controversial but necessary third force act that kills and imprisons any cartel member that doesn’t submit to protect civilians from death or intimidation to prevent them from joining because with the rise of brics, nato really needs all the allies we can get.....but hey that’s just my opinion

They separated one or two a year due to possible trafficking etc and it was a priority to reunite the families after the investigation. Have you heard of google? Use it before you spew lies: www.nbcnews.com/storyline/immigration-border-crisis/fact-check-did-obama-administration-separate-families-n884856

Wrong. During the Obama administration, c hildren weren't ripped, wholesale, from their parents in the way that Trump is ordering. Plus, the Obama administration *knew how to govern.* They knew where detainees were. They had a . . . wait for it . . . p-l-a-n in place before proceeding with policies. What a novel idea for President Spanky to consider.
@supercoolguy43
@supercoolguy43 6 жыл бұрын
eponymousIme Because the Obama administration practiced a catch and release policy, where they almost immediately deported people caught trying to cross the border. No detention time means no family separation. But when families _were_ detained, they were separated in the same way Trump is separating them now. The reason you're seeing so much about it now is a combination of the media's obsession with Trump and the new Zero-Tolerance policy, that aims to prosecute everyone crossing the border illegally.

What exactly is the legal justification behind separating children from their parents at the border? 'To protect them?' A child can only be protected from their parents if there is substantial evidence that the parents endanger their child and that separation would result in lesser endangerment. Even if you argue that parents who cross many miles across a continent to cross into our country constitutes 'endangerment' that would still require on our part to then provide an environment where these children are safer. Separate from their parents, no way to advocate for themselves, and concentrated in camps is not 'safer.'

There's a legal way to seek asylum though. *Most* of the cases in question aren't actual asylum seekers but people crossing the border illegally (IIRC reports document like 53 cases of asylum seeking families being separated [vs several thousands of family separations]; it is a problem but not the problem some think it is). To seek asylum, you're legally required to present yourself at a port of entry (ie major border crossing) [and state that you're seeking asylum], not just any spot along the border where you happen to get caught entering the country without any documentation. [per international law, you are required to be granted temporary asylum while your case is being processed] The reason this is an issue at all is because the immigration courts aren't funded well enough so processing times get pushed up beyond the legal limits of how long we can detain children per US and international law. The catch and release approach (the only real alternative solution without increasing funding for immigration courts) saw 98% of illegal immigrant families into the country without returning for their court date (only 2% returned for their case to be heard). Without proper funding to ICE/CBP and more immigration courts, there's no good or easy option (unless you believe the immigration reform that there's been a consensus about needing for three decades is impossible so the only solution is to ignore the law instead of fixing it). Beyond the easy and relatively cheap fix that the left doesn't want to do, we could establish refugee camps that are freely open to anyone fleeing the violence of Latin America. Despite the crisis, nobody is championing that idea, the left see it as not doing enough while the right see it as very expensive. Separating families is terrible, but the logical consequence of a lack of funding to deal with the crisis levels of illegal border crossings and well intentioned laws about how long we can detain children. Is it a terrible policy? Yes. Is it a policy that partially started under Obama? Yes. Is it a policy that Trump greatly expanded and altered? Yes. Is there an easy answer to it all that's obvious to all politicians involved? Yes. Would both sides rather make it a crisis and use it as part of a broader debate like the KeystoneXL Pipeline? Yes, it's politics as usual.
