The risers were simple to add a d saved the cost of someone doing it, but it was stinky for sure. Glad it's done.

Oh no. Did you have to replace the entire tank? Or just a new top? Mine is a complete cast cement box, but I guess if just the top collapsed that might be an easier fix the ripping out the entire thing. And yes adding the risers takes a lot of the stress of needing to dig it up every few years.

@@RossOnTheLand his was built in the 1950’s or early 60’s. The lid didn’t have rebar in it so the cement just got brittle and gave way. He bought some precast concrete lids, I think they were 24”x 60” x 4” and it took 3 sections. I was worried we would have to replace the tank at first. I’ve got at least one video on it (Septic Tank Lid Collapse Repair).

Thank you for the comments. I 💯 agree with you and I really should have mentioned these points about pump out rates. My pump out guy mentioned those stats, and suggested in my case to pump every 2 years based on what he found inside. I did mention not having to do it every 2 years when the kids leave, and I know for a fact, our house doesn't do our septic system any favours... :) And more than I care to admit stuff other than crap goes down the drain. Much appreciated.

@@RossOnTheLand Pump frequency depends on the rate of accumulation of sludge in the tank. If RRR parents tanks don't have much sludge their pump interval may be ok but it would be prudent to dig out the lids and check a sludge level. There are videos on how this is done, but once the tank is accessed sludge is 'mud' like stuff at the bottom, a stick stuck in to the bottom of the tank will have the sludge mark on it when removed. Takes about 20 seconds (after X hours of digging out the lid.) After doing the riser install on my tanks, I got a piece of 6' long 2" PVC tubing and stuck it into the tanks and just by feel could tell where the sludge level was, there was a noticeable increase in resistance when the end of the pipe hit the sludge level, which was ~2' in the first tank, last pumped in 2011 and ~1' in the second tank which has not been pumped in 30+ yrs.

You are welcome yes Canada. Here's the information for mine. 9" High riser, 24"x24" With flat lids for easier mowing of grass.
