Thanks a million for posting this! After I had our tank pumped out a couple of weeks ago, I realized that by the time we have to have it pumped again, I'll be about 80 years old. Yikes! I may not want to dig a two foot hole in the ground by then. The guy who pumped it out recommended a riser, which I had never heard of. After watching your video, I felt like it was something I could handle on my own, so I followed your instructions and the whole process took about an hour and a half.

The black corrugated pipe is ADS solid. I used to buy it in 20 ft lengths x 24-in inside diameter. It looked pretty weird carrying that on top of my pickup truck LOL. Most of our tanks had 24-in lids. I always kept some 18 in on hand for the 18-in lids. I like the Orenco lids for surface lids. Most people preferred having the riser ending 6 in under the grass so it did not show in their lawn and was still easy to dig. We just used concrete around the outside of the pipe too seal it off around the tank. Then I had a bar that had a round and for tamping to make sure the dirt was tight around the riser and did not create sinkholes. By the way, the 20 ft by 24-in pipe was absolutely great to prop up on the deck and have the kids use it as a slide.

The only 2 things I don't like about the Tuff Tite dome lids where I work are the #2 Phillips screws they often come with, and the fact that they can only be fastened through the small, easily breakable loops and the safety screw mounts on the sides. I've found that #2 Phillips screws strip very easily, because I rarely find any in good condition on a job site.

I'm seeing a number of comments about burying the lid to look nicer. In a more recent video, he actually recommended not doing that. The reason being if the baffle were to clog, it's easy enough to open it and use a stick or other tool to unclog it and fix it temporarily until you can get it pumped out. If you bury it, now you have to dig to fix that problem. Honestly, your lawn isn't going to look that great in that area anyway since the grass above the septic tank tends to be dead. He's always talking about that being a way to locate the tank by finding the dead grass.

You pointed out a possible problem that I had wondered about. That being drilling holes into an old concrete septic tank to attach the base mounting ring. I didn't want to ruin a 44 year old tank with botched up drill holes. I REALLY like your suggestion about the Great Stuff Pond & Stone. I wasn't aware of this particular product.

Thanks for showing us this process. I was wondering what you meant when you said installing risers so you don't have to dig it up again. I was picturing adding cement to the whole in a type of tubing and then bring the lid up to the top. I love learning something new every day. Merry Christmas to you all.

Hey Dominic, another great video. I enjoy you sharing all your experience and knowledge. Your parents must be proud of you. You are always so polite to your costumers, yes sir, no sir, etc. Unfortunately we don’t hear enough of that anymore. I really like the grease trap clean outs, would like to see where you dispose the grease and how they process the solids like you mentioned in your other videos. Thanks

I used the Polyloc HD flat lids with Polyloc risers. They're rated 1000#. I can partially confirm this, having accidentally driven multiple vehicles over them. I was more concerned about the ancient tank underneath than the lids. [I have no connection with Polyloc. I'm just a satisfied customer. BTW, I found the best price ordering direct from Polyloc.]

Interesting video. I have a newbuild that uses septic and I have no idea why the builder didn't just install the riser when installed. I have no idea how many rises I need and will have to clear the top of the section to find out. Luckily, I am in Florida and it isn't hard dirt.

7:06 YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME!!! I am in east tn and have horrible well and well water for my mobile home in country. How do I find out what kind of tank and system I have? My UN-significant other bought the trailer and property a year ago and has been gone ever since. I do most work myself but this is one thing I know nothing about. I opened the lid to well and all I see is nasty shit and yuck. As far as I know there is a well pump breaker below main power meter box outside but I don’t know of any other switches, or anything other than a pipe I can see in the well that has a small concrete box around where water comes out of it…I flipped breaker on and no water in the home. I don’t know where to start or what to check….I thought it was full but apparently it’s supposed to be that full and nasty. Any suggestions how to figure out what problem is? You guys speak easy to understand instructions which helps tremendously. Oh yea and I am a most of the time single mom of 4 plus grandchild. So I am broke and not a professional 😂. ANY SUGGESTIONS(they are all gonna stink but I can handle it😆) would be greatly appreciated. Did I mention you guys are great! Maybe y’all could do a southern tour for WELL HELL!!!😊

Had one of these installed about 3 years ago & I’m in northeastern Indiana, with a frost line of I think 4’… riser is 2’, if I remember right. Has anyone had issues with these with *frost heave*??? I have my top section that looks like it’s coming loose on one side (missing screws) and heaved up crooked to one side. But then I’m trying to figure out if it’s just because my lawn guy that hit it with his riding mower or from frost heave. I chose to have it sitting up above the ground about 6” so it wouldn’t get buried again, so that’s also a possibility.

Did that need to be pumped with all that fluid in there?
@ryan_torres
@ryan_torres Жыл бұрын
Nope, it just got pumped a few days before the install of the risers. A septic tank is always "full". The idea of a septic tank is that for every amount of liquid that goes in, an equal amount drains out into the drain field which is perforated pipe out in the yard. The purpose of the tank is to hold the solids which are broken down by bacteria over time. After a few years however, the solids do start to pile up and you need to pump out the tank before the solids get piled up high enough and reaches the drain field. If the solids go out into the drain field, it will cause the system to fail which can cost thousands of dollars to fix or replace.

You didn't seal off the risers(between each riser). Tree roots went in-between the riser sections b/c my butyl-rubber was over 10 years old. If that land has a high-water table then you've made even more of a mistake. A roll of butyl rubber is just over $10. My neighbors new installer also skipped install step #10, sealing off the risers to prevent groundwater entering, & it allowed the trash tank to vent improperly where huge green flies were literally digging themselves into the ground. The installers out here get passed using 4 inch outdoor-wood screws, it's wild, the Stainless are not expensive & easy to order. Idk why but septic installers also put romex wire in conduit, IDK why they aren't failed for this fire safety violation b/c they should be using THHN. I also think they should be failed for not using compression fittings on flexible-PVC, the glue doesn't last.

Where i'm from in a civilized society, there are literally people who live hours away from city sewage lines that municipalities or home owners aren't willing to pay millions of dollars just to run a one sewer line to one house. Also, a septic system is a sewage system.

@@ryan_torres um you must think cities always were!! Like cities didn't start out as villages with no sewage turn into towns with no sewage have the sewage poison their air and water then become cities with sewage.

@@PoorPumperSociety you don't need to connect to a cities sewer line I'm sure there is a highway closer than 10miles that also connects to that same inner city line. If not well then partner I think the farming industry in the united States is just about as dead as the industrial factory industry and it's time to sell that land to the city allowing them to build sewer lines closer!!
@ryan_torres
@ryan_torres Жыл бұрын
@@culinarymaster52 well, obviously cities weren't always there. However, a lot of the cities and villages here aren't what you picture in your mind. From what I'm gathering, you're not from the United States. I imagine that when you picture this country, a lot of those images in your mind may come to mind come from images related to the east coast. While true, those "older" cities on that coast are fairly young, compared to a lot of European cities. However, a lot of the west coast is even newer and the population is a lot less dense. You have places in the west coast where you can drive a several hours and not see any civilization. Just empty fields. Then, maybe see a house out by itself. It just isn't feasible to run a single sewer line to that one house. In fact, that home may not even have running water or electricity. They have to fill a tank up at the closest water source and haul it back to their home. A lot of homes around where I live don't have addresses. You have to give directions telling the person to go down the dirt road for 25 miles and then there is a small tree, turn there. Then, go down the dirt road a few more miles where you will see a rock, ect. I hope you understand what I'm trying to convey to you. A lot isn't as easy as you may think.
