Swords became obsolete long before guns, they became obsolete due to short swords and long knives, and they've always sucked fighting plate or scale armor, or even good reinforced leather. EDIT: Swords are HEAVY compared to a damn KNIFE. Y'all can't fucking read.

The next thing you said was somehow a longer weapon with more leverage would be less effective against plate, mail and leather... what? What kinda swords have you seen? A longsword in good condition will tear right through ANY mail and it will absolutely obliterate leather. Plate is not defeated by any blade, that's why it was introduce duh. In the books this never would have happened. Bronn wins by being smart/devious and this is a dumb move. This is soap opera/power rangers stuff in comparison.

@@vorpalrobot You clearly cant tell what's going on here, for starters, Bronn was grabbing his knife from a Scout carry which would have provided for a quick first strike, secondly he stepped in close to them which also put him as a direct obstruction to their sword draws, take a look, he was in the way of their draw. Thirdly the amount of time necessary to unsheathe the swords vs his knife and getting away from him enough to use said swords? both were already dead by that point.

@@blurwake Yes I understand what the show is trying to portray. Meryn Trant is a greasy scumbag, but in the books all the kingsguard are very very very highly competent fighters. If they were guarding a doorway you wouldn't get within 40 ft. Some of this stuff is due to TV budget concerns of course. You can't always show dozens of bodyguards. But Bronn was always just a pretty good fighter. He won by being cunning and the fans loved him for being such a smartass. It's out of character for the most part for him to risk that much. If you needed to take down the kingsguard he was doing the right thing I get what you're saying, but it's out of character for him to even try.

Not exactly. The knife is better in a grapple, so you can use the blade to jab or slice the throat or any other joint/gap in the armor. But until you have your enemy on the floor you'd best pick up the sword to have any chance of living for the next 2 minutes.

There’s no way you’re going to effectively draw and use your 2.5 foot sword when your opponent is already starting at 2 feet away with a knife out. Not to mention the Kingsguard use longer greatswords in this story compared to the other knights so make that 3 feet long, even longer if we’re talking about the mountain

​@@tim4570in fairness a dagger is generally a better weapon against an armoured opponent as you can control it better and aim for weak spots. It wasn't unknown for people in plate armour to be killed that way after having spent the entire battle shrugging off sword blows (seriously, a sword is basically useless against someone in full plate, hence why Robert used a warhammer). The counter is, they don't need to swing their swords, they can just push into him with them, and cut him with the edge. They don't risk cutting themselves if the blade pushes back at them, he however is at risk. He would also know (he's not an idiot), even minor sword wounds can cripple or even kill you. As for speed, as stupid as it sounds, they wouldn't be that much slower because of the armour, they've trained since childhood to wear that armour (which would be perfectly fitted to them and have exceelent balance & weight distribution), they'll be quite adept at moving in it, even able to run and jump in it (it actually weights less than a modern soliders full kit). He would be slightly faster (he's faster than them to begin with, his fighting style plays into that) due to the lack of weight. His biggest advantage however would be using them against each other, 2v1 is only 2v1 if both can reach you, one can't pass through the other afterall.

Save Jaime when Jaime straight charging in to Daenerys and drogon. Luring Jaime to that dungeon with balerion skull so Tyrion can discuss the truce between Daenerys, Jon and cersei. Yeah money is his main motif but he still have honor and regards for their friends, season 8 is just straight hot mess, and the ending after all what he did and those dead threat to Tyrion, Tyrion still gave him the high garden and position in small council, meanwhile in season before when Tyrion named as the hand of the king of joffrey, he gets rids all of the potential threat like the head of that gold cloak that I can't remember whoever the fuck his name is. It's not just bronn or tyrion, it's just the writing that gone too far south.

To be fair he did indeed help the two meet up to discuss the truce in the north. But he always did primarily do things for money. As for honor, I quote Bronn after being told he fights with no honor “He has honor, now he’s dead”.

I love the scene of him singing reigns of castamere and he was asked where he learned the lanister song and he just replied drunk lanisters haha. Dude was a straight up killer for hire but he had a code and the show for all its flaws never let him down as a character. The same man from the time you met him to his final scene in kings landing. Even that mini turn with the crossbow in season 8 he keeps his word of you will always have the last chance to outbid someone else to stop me from doing a job.

I don't see this as a Bronn win. He's good but he's not fight two men in full plate at once good and Pod doesn't even have a weapon.
