SERE school was the single best training in anything I have ever gotten anywhere; military or civilian. MSgt Lafromboye became my model for how I wanted to carry myself as an airman. Those instructors are something else. Just incredible.

@@vvill7109 That is a really good point. With Brian going from enlisted to officer as well it'd be interesting to hear what their motivation for doing so was. Still, the main reason for doing it would be exposure for Onesready and casting a wider net.

Acronym storm meets highly specialized vocabulary. I'm not the target audience, but I understood about half of what was said. Still interesting. Its clear this guy loves his job and I suspect, strongly, that he's good at it. Everything I have heard of SERE is that its not what you think and its one of the best run schools in the military. Out of all the AFSPECWAR Fields, would you guys say that SERE Specs have the most opportunity for a “semi-normal” family life? Since after graduation you become a trainer, would it be a gig where you have a good home base for a few years as opposed to SR, TACP, CCT where you are on assignment away from home more?
@therealtiffanyz
@therealtiffanyz 3 жыл бұрын
For the most part, it is more friendly family once you graduate and are an instructor in the field flights. You will be out in the field one week a month but the rest of the month you are home unless they send you out of town for training. If you end up working at RT, water survival or go base level after your flight time, you can be home every night and the only time you may be away is if you deploy or go TDY.

@@therealtiffanyz wow thanks Miss Hart. Definitely exciting to get a reply from you. I really enjoyed the podcast you did with the guys a couple weeks back about SERE. Every time I watch one of their videos I get hella motivated to continue my journey towards strength and self-sufficiency. You rock! Thanks again for the reply! I would say I am most interested in SERE because I have a family (few kiddos, wifey) and love that even tho the field is in the AFSPECWAR vein it does allow me more opportunity to balance that work-family life.

I went through the Instructor School in 1988 and my wife moved there with me because it was over 5 months and I lived off base. Also once you graduated you would only be gone 1 week a month in the field.

Question for y'all, I'm going to air force bmt next month and going to be pursuing pararescue. My question is just about the different creeds among the Air Force special operations groups. For instance, PJs have a very clear one "that others may live" (although that's not the whole creed) but I wasn't sure about the others like SR, CCTs, SERE if they had a clear creed. If you guys did have one would you mind explaining how it did/didn't mean something to you. Thanks!
@OnesReady
@OnesReady 4 жыл бұрын
For CCT it is "First There" and SR it is "Eyes Forward". Maybe this is just me, but I didn't really pay attention to the motto while going through the pipeline because I was just trying to perform and make it through. Maybe others did though, but not me. (Peaches)

Do SERE specialist get to parachute as part of the job at any point in the career? Also, are SERE specialists required to swim or do dive school?
@Lydia-Roe

@therealtiffanyz
@therealtiffanyz 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Carlos! So all 3-level SERE Specialists are required to attend the Basic Airborne Course at Ft. Benning. If you are attached to a primary parachuting unit later in your career, you could potentially get more jump schools like MFF or JM. As for swimming, they have taken the swim out of the SERE PAST but you are still required to take a swim test before your water phases in training. In order to work at water survival, you need to be a proficient swimmer. You may have the opportunity to go to dive school when you work at water survival but it’s not guaranteed and it’s highly coveted so you’ll have to be on your A-game if you want it.

I can speak to the swim portion, having recently went through the pipeline, we only did a swim test prior to going to open ocean phase to see if we needed a special helmet to let cadre know we will prob be riding the struggle bus when we get ditched out of the rafts. Its not a pass or fail test by any means. Fun fact, i got a special helmet lol
