The producers don't turn anybody into anything, all they can do is amplify what's already there. They may egg people on to create drama, but trust that she is at least 80% of the unpleasant personality you see on TV. Source: I'm a camera operator who's worked on several reality TV shows.

Thank you. It's super aggravating how she's trying to spin this. She was very mean for no reason and everyone else in the cast who's spoken up about her agrees that it was just her personality.

@@Nyny.1000 I've not met one contestent on a reality show that is healthy. They fall into two major categories; The first and by far the most common are the narcissists. They have a terrifying inability to understand other people's wants and needs, unless it's of benefit to their own progression. The second are the lost, people who are at a crossroads in their life and are desperately looking for answers before they can move forward. I see lost of otherwise "normal" people but who are fresh out of divorce/break up, out of uni, wanting to leave a life of partying behind them or want to change careers and don't know how. It's awfully bleak, but producers actively seek these archetypes out they are wonderfully entertaining.

@@zt1788 thank you for this extra insight, it makes soo much sense. I mean the narcissists cast themselves, but the fact that realistically some vulnerable people are targeted for entertainment is super chilling. At the same time, as a consumer of reality TV, the producers are responding to our viewer demands. Reminds me of a scandal in the U.K. with the Jeremy Kyle show (think Jerry Springer but took itself more seriously than it should have) They would fill guests with alcohol first thing in the morning and just let embarrass themselves on camera. I think there was uproar after someone who was in the show ended their own life due to the online hate. I feel sadly it was similar with Instant Hotel’s Shay.
