She became a poet and writer after a series of occupations as a young adult, including fry cook, sex worker, and nightclub dancer.
2. Be courageous
She was an actor, writer, director, and producer of plays, movies, and public television programs.
3. Love
In 1982, she earned the first lifetime Reynolds Professorship of American Studies at Wake Forest University.
4. Laugh
She was active in the Civil Rights movement and worked with Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X.
5. Be a blessing to somebody
Beginning in the 1990s, she made around 80 appearances a year on the lecture circuit, something she continued into her eighties.
6. Turn struggles into triumphs
With the publication of I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Angelou publicly discussed aspects of her personal life.
7. You are talented
Attempts have been made to ban her books from some U.S. libraries, but her works are widely used in schools and universities worldwide.
8. Learn to say no
She made a deliberate attempt to challenge the common structure of the autobiography by critiquing, changing, and expanding the genre.
9. Always do your best
Her books center on themes such as racism, identity, family, and travel.
10. Keep rising
She received dozens of awards and more than 50 honorary degrees.

"There is a rainbow in the clouds" My son is disable and graduated from high school, during the ceremony it became cloudy and started raining. About 20 minutes into the ceremony, while the clouds were still in the sky pouring rain, two rainbows appeared, one above another. I'm sharing this because I raised my son never expecting him to do more than just exist. He has helped me understand true love and joy in its simplest form. ❤❤❤❤❤

*HEALTHY* self-love is important. There are degrees of self-love, and if you're too busy loving yourself too much it could morph into self-absorption, self-centeredness, selfishness and a tendency to not consider how your words and actions affect others. A healthy degree of self-love is very important, as is empathy for others, compassion, altruism, compassion and kindness.

This means that there are clear signs about a person which show up in different ways eg: A person may himself/ herself say something not nice about him or herself, maybe as a joke ( believe them for they know themselves) or they REPEATEDLY do bad, strange awful things, know that seldom do ppl change for the better and chances are this behaviour will get worse with time and one day in the future cause harm and may even be disastrous. So believe them in the beginning🤔

I really loved it when she said "Courage is the most important virtue of all because without courage you can't practice any other virtue consistently". This really resonated with me because we often hold back ourselves from the life we are meant to have because we are just too scared or not courageous enough to take step we need now. That empty chair reminds me of my sister Mary, the most beautiful, warm, giving sister i was blessed to have had. When we had our first family luncheon, my sister Elsie set out an empty chair for her, I can actually cry when I write this, I miss her so. I was blessed to have her in my life for six weeks before she passed, I had surgery and was home for six weeks, as soon as I was able, we saw each other every day. Went back to work on Monday, after the six weeks, she passed Tuesday. THAT WAS A BLESSING I was able to enjoy my sister everyday for 6 weeks.
