Venus Williams debut at US open 1997 age 17 final with Martina Hingis World Number 1 she defeat Venus with 6-0 , 6-4 . Serena was watching that match and she decides wait for me , I will turn 17 and you gonna loose to me the final of Us open at age 17 . That's the day A LEGEND A GOAT PLAYER born 🙌 👏

Hingis is only 1 year older than Serena. Yet Serena is still making grand slam finals, while Hingis seems like from an era long past.

Hingis stopped playing singles a long while back and focussed on doubles and has dominated there until she finally retired in 2017. It's uncommon to see players in their 30s do well and keep up with the others. Serena is special, but so is Hingis.

@@capitacaldera02 ehhhhhh. No. Serena won 23 and Hingis won 18. but only if you include doubles where Hingish was top for a long time. In singles Serena won 22 and Hingis only 5.

@@aeon5566 hingis was done by 21set century bcoz she and her game became outdated. She won't win a single slam today. Likes of henin evolved their games and won more. No one cares about doubles.

Serena was so fast and athletic here. Then again she did push a whole human into the world. Physiologically some women their never the same after. And she is 40. In tennis thats like 70.

@@barrioboi14344 off course. The Williams have had their bad moments, more Serena than Venus. I have no problems calling that out, even though I think she (Serena) is the greatest ever. Hingis had her bad moments. And prior to the 1999 match had been trash talking the Williams sisters. I mean what else can she do other than smile and be cheery even if she didn’t feel it. I guess that’s the best way really

Mary Carillo tried her damndest not to give Serena credit for her greatness. Nice try, peasant, but Serena beat Hingis hands-down in this match and continued to dominate their rivalry until Hingis couldn’t take the beatings anymore and retired. 😂🤣😂

Have seen a couple of teenagers in the recent past who haven't fulfilled potential- Bianca Andreescu (coincidentally enough with a Romanian last name) won just two years back and really has done bupkis since and Iga Swiatek who swept all b4 her at the FO last year are two names that spring to mind.

Martina Hingis's name rhymes very well with "Betina Bengis" in Malay language, which means a fierce lady! I love calling Hingis by that name tbh. AND THESE MATCH BETWEEN THE TWO LEGENDS, as SERENA represented to us the power, athletic ability and ferocious strength of a champion's willpower as the core of a champion in women's tennis while HINGIS represented to us the grace, supreme racquet hands technique and tactical intelligence of the court(despite her low power). IN terms of just being the genius and who has the supreme intelligence of understanding the geometry of the court and shots selection, Hingis is my top 3 of all time if not the no 1. Looking back at this shows that even after all these years, when Serena gets tight, she stops moving her feet. That never really changed only difference is she stop being put in that situation

@@falsettogod5853 right, there have been some heart breakers over the years where you can see her feet and legs just turned into concrete 😢 There is a clip somewhere on KZfaq where Billy Jean King is telling her after that really tight match with Heather Watson, "what do you need to do when it's windy? Serena didn't seem to know every to say, BKJ said "to move your feet"

@@malcolmnorman5694 yes. Another point. It works sometimes, more often than not but it has failed her. To be it shows just how good get serve was most of her career but especially going into 05 and beyond. She was able to get so many free points from that serve she didn't have to worry about some of her weaker points. I think since she has come back, that serve has just not been the same and has really gone missing in GS finals

It wasn't shade at all. I'm not a big Mary fan but they flashed the winners/errors stats and Serena had a lot more errors. So her comment "that Hingis isn't playing well enough to win this match but may be on the court when Serena loses it" was appropriate and brilliant. It was more shade against Hingis than Serena.

Hingis had nothing against Serena. The only thing I can think of is Hingis net game but Serena can overcome that by passing shots that Serena can easily reach by her atheism. I think Hingis should have work on adding power in her game n work on her service improvement, it’s hard as that is against Hingis style of play but for achieving greatness n go toe to toe against these emerging power players she did nothing to improve her game.

Huge fan but there's no sense hiding it anymore.....she uses some type of HgH. Her body has so much muscle mass now compared to her 20s. It's not from lifting either. Sure she has good genes but this is more than that. She gave in to the people pressuring her to be a legend and rich and famous beyond her wildest dreams. She didn't marry a scrub normal guy either, as only a rich man would do
