The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

“Funiculi Funicula was my theme song when my, now 15 year old, grandson was very little. He had a toy that played this song and every time I was at his house (which was quite often), he would run and get this toy & play it. This went on for very many months. I felt so special to have my own theme song a la Johnny Carson. ❤️😄

Fantastic, thank you so much for uploading this! One of Sergio's earliest appearances on the Sullivan show, and it's a great one! Please post more Sergio and other tenors!

@@jong0000 I agree completely. Some of the songs Sergio sang on the '70's shows were not suited to his talents at all. He did some pop songs really well, but they have to be the right songs. "Love is All", "Time Alone Will Tell" even "A Man Without Love" were a great fit for his talents, and I hope the other two are posted. Other videos I would like to see are "You'll Never Walk Alone" and of course, his classic performances of the aria, "Core 'Ngrato".

@@TomElvisSmith I've started to transfer some of his LP recordings which have never been published on CD and upload them to my channel. FYI if you're interested. It's a lot of work to hunt down good copies, but he sounds incredible, so it's worth it.

this was so much better than the previous recent posts...properly shows his off his talent; and he had some. He definitely needed to avoid pop music. they were hideous, and it makes you wonder what he had on Ed that they had him on so often with songs that were so bad for him...

Sergio came to America when the younger generation (& their tastes in music) was overpopulating the planet in the early 60s. Many productions by classical artists turned to pop music to keep in touch with times.
