Adrian Tchaikovsky might be the GOAT. At least the greatest sci fi writer at the moment. I've no idea how he writes so much with such high quality.

I saw your review pop up in my notifications, but I initially skipped it because I had just started the audiobook. Now that I've finished it, I'm enjoying your video not because I need you to recommend it to me, but I wanted to see someone as excited about having read such a good book as I feel. The book sections in the story were fascinating and even got me to check out The Library of Babel. The part about Hostile Architecture really really struck me deeply because I used to live in Seattle, where Ballard City Council would rather place massive boulders on the sidewalk than give any comfort or decency to the unhoused. This is the kind of sci-fi that I can't stop thinking about and I love it.

a robot poirot sounds great considering he feels robotic already the way he is written so you have sold me a book I would never have found by myself again: thank you for your brilliant work, willow.💡

I've had Children of Time on my shelf, unread, for a while now. You're making me want to put everything else aside and read it now!

I have both read Children of Time and listened on audible. Absolutely brilliant. Highly recommend the audible edition. I was completely lost in it.

Placed this one on hold at my library! Thank you for sharing your passion 🤍 Benches that are not benches are exhausting for me. Not only politically but because I have an invisible illness and when I’m having a bad day, I need to sit down desperately and these bloody leaning things at a train station do not provide me with what I need, so I have to sit on the ground and the stares are great because I’m a white woman in my 30s and you can tell people are like ‘what tf?!” as they don’t expect it from me. Like yeah stuff hostile architecture

I had come across the description of this book several times, but the blurb didn’t really sell me on it….so glad I came across your review.

This sounds incredible. The idea of using different author styles is so interesting. I'm currently reading Children of Memory and I think I need to see if my library has this because I need to read more Tchaikovsky. If they don't at least I've got a copy of Shards of Earth to jump into

Tchaikovsky is SOOoo underrated!! I have read 6 and half of his books so far and looved most of them (and even the one I didn't necessarily loved was just amazing!). I wish he would get way more attention here on KZfaq, I am so thankful to you Willow that you talk about his books! My favorite so far are Guns of the Dawn, Cage of Souls and City of last chances. But Elder race, Made things and Dogs of war are amazing!! Currently reading Alien Clay and awaiting for Service model 😍❤️

Sounds intriguing, I have just read a book in a world without humans, Sea of Rust. A Poirot AI sounds fun, in the Blink of an Eye is a police procedural where a cop is paired with an AI partner, which is fun.

Very excited to read this one! Currently reading The Doors of Eden by him (about halfway through), not my favourite but tons of fantastic ideas. CW for a lot of transphobia in the novel though, the villains are basically evil Tories lol

Thank you for the review. Quick question, you say that Tchaikovsky talks about his politicals ideals or ideas on his book. One of the things i dislike is writers that impose their values and almost judges the readers. Does his writing feel like that or does he put ideas and let you decide if you concur or not? Thank you
@WillowTalksBooks

That’s kind of a nebulous thing, depending on your own disposition. For example, if you consider the inclusion of a gay or trans character to be the author “shoving it down our throats” then you won’t enjoy this. I dunno, babe, every artist has their political motivations; all art is political by its definition, so I’m not really sure what to tell you, sorry 🤷🏻‍♀️

@@WillowTalksBooks thank your for your answer. I mean I enjoy when the writer makes in a way "you decide". When it feels like a imposition, even in themes/points of view, I agree , I usually dont enjoy.. thank you again. Have a great day
