Here we have a full service of our engine with change of coolant. We did not change the belts as they do not require change.
Kind regards
The Carry on crew!

Simple tasks, but not so simple if you do not know how to do it! I never knew about putting a filter to catch propeller parts! Great

I find your videos amazing to watch from an entertainment purpose but also from an educational standpoint ... as my wife likes to put it "enterTRAINment!" Thanks so much for the time you take to review the Neel 51 (which is on my wife and my shortlist) and go into detail on all the modifications / improvements you have made (as both my wife and I are engineers). In relation to this video, would you recommend the Integrel system with Lithium over a generator (if you were to build this boat again)?? Also, I may have missed this in your channel, but one thing that will be the hardest thing to give up for my wife and I, is our dog... we have always had a dog in our family and we wonder how you get on and whether its changed any of your plans of where you are going?? thanks again for your videos and looking forward to you carrying on :)
@carryonsailing
@carryonsailing 2 жыл бұрын
Mike, Many thanks to you and your wife for the kind comments. I would definitley go for the integrel setup or an electrodyne alternator. Though there is a bit of risk involved. THe onan cummins is about the most reliable bit of kit I have on board. 11KVA. The performance is not greatly affected by it's presence. WRT the dog, no issues at all as she has a eu pet passport, however sailing to AUS and NZ will be very difficult with her. She will need to quarantine, which is tough for the dog. J

Thanks for the view of the coolant filter - I've been looking for one! Did you get it installed? How's it working?
@carryonsailing
@carryonsailing Жыл бұрын
HI steve, The advice I got from those more skilled than me is not to do it. You are better to lower the strainer below the water line. that is all we can do im afraid.
@dwongu
@dwongu Жыл бұрын
@@carryonsailing Interesting... our sea strainer is well below the waterline, but that's "up-line" from the impeller/pump. I'm looking for ways to catch any impeller bits to avoid having them end up lodged in cooler, etc... Safe sailing!

Hey James. Hope you are well. I am thinking on getting a Code 0 sail for my Neel 51 so I have a light air reaching sail. Note that I am getting hydranet sails. In your experience is a light air reaching sail a good add or does the Genoa get it done?
@carryonsailing
@carryonsailing 2 жыл бұрын
Yes. Code zero is a good option for all points of sail though technically for upwind. It's easy to deploy and therefore more use able. Also Bret, if you do the miles and are going to circumnavigate, I would say its almost a must. I personally do not think the assymetric is as much value as a gennaker or code zero for cruising. Remember in light airs you will want to keep her reaching and therefore, the apparent wind will be well forward of the beam eventually, so go with code zero.

With and additional 1kW of solar behind the cockpit and maybe a larger alternator do you feel you could go without the genset?
@carryonsailing
@carryonsailing 2 жыл бұрын
Yes easily. If you want to do that, larger engine and elctrodyne alternator. I however think the Genset is the single most reliable bit of kit. Onan Cummins. Wish my engine was built by them.

@@carryonsailing good point, redundancy is probably worth the minor bit of additional weight.
@carryonsailing
@carryonsailing 2 жыл бұрын
it doesnt make a massive difference to performance. I have compared with other NEEL 51. Thus, I would suggest copy my set up if you are interested in a neel 51 apart from the D2-75. Even better if you could get a yanmar or beta marine engine. Nanni are good too,

Wow - thats not how you drain the coolant from a D2-75. Theres several drain nippes and a big square plug at the bottom of the heat jacket. if you don't do that, you can't get it all out.

You need an electric engine and batteries with solar panels. No maintenance needed. For Infrequent use they would be perfect and cost nothing to run. No oil, no diesel, no problems.
@carryonsailing
@carryonsailing 2 жыл бұрын
The maximum range you would have is 15nm without having a diesel generator (DC) to charge the batteries. That isn't viable for what I we do.
@F1Barry
@F1Barry 2 жыл бұрын
@@carryonsailing Haven't you seen the silent yachts. Can run all day with solar cells and batteries.
@carryonsailing
@carryonsailing 2 жыл бұрын
Yes I have seen videos Barry thanks for info. However what I haven't seen is any operating in the places I go. Once I start to see electric engines in the far ends of our planet WITHOUT the need of a generator (combustion) engine, then I'll be very interested. 20nm range without genset isn't enough for what I do. Perfect for a costal boat. Also parts will be hard to find for newer systems.
