Set-Up Voice Monkey Skill in Amazon Alexa App | Echo Speaks Alt (2021)

This video will show you how to set up the Amazon Alexa skill called Voice Monkey. Voice Monkey will give you the ability to create up to 300 virtual doorbells that can be used in Alexa Routines.
Voice Monkey will also give you the ability to trigger Alexa Routines, make announcements, send Text to Speech to your Echo devices, and more. Use the Playground feature to generate unique API URLs that can be used in SharpTools to trigger your Monkeys remotely and get your Smart Home talking again! This is not as easy as Echo Speaks and there are far fewer options but it’s a step in the right direction.

Thank you for providing this great information. Please consider showing how to use VM with Webcore. I am particularly interested in learning how to send text from Webcore to a group of Alexa devices and have them announce something simultaneously. Like we use to be able to do in Echo Speaks and SmartThings Webcore.

Can this same thing (trigger Alexa routines/voice from Smartthings or SharpTools) be accomplished with a virtual switch in Smartthings?

Using a special virtual switch in SmartThings to trigger Alexa routines and announcements is not reliable for everyone. Using voice monkey you will be able to do this directly from SharpTools without the need for SmartThings which will improve speed and reliability. My next video will show you how to use it to its full potential in SharpTools. Trigger routines, send a text to speech, make announcements, etc.

I was a bit hopeful seeing Alexa app functionality through a web browser. I just tried it though and it keeps trying to redirect me to the app. Have they changed the website since this video or is it that I need to request dev access or something?

I think voice monkey is a premium skill now. Used to be free.

I have tried this many times and I keep getting a message that says to say the phrase “Alexa, ask voice monkey for the final step” and when I do that Alexa doesn’t know what to do. She keeps saying hmm I don’t know. Any thoughts?

Just not able to see my monkey in my alexa app. Also, when I try to delete monkey on the dashboard, it tell me there is a problem connecting with alexa and wont delete any monkey... And if I check on the alexa app, in the right language I can see the skill but online in my amazon account, I cant find the skill. When I ask my echo to open voice monkey, it tells me that I need to set up a message or something...but my monkey is set with a playground api that countain message... All access is set correctly and I click on allow... Maybe you could help me, I just dont know what to do next! Thanks and keep going with your videos, pretty usefull!

Sounds like a setup issue. I would remove everything and start fresh.

That could be the issue then. I know that it works in United States for sure. If you are trying to make announcements in your language what you might need to do is play it with an MP3 file.

@@SimplySmart123 Only 1 monkey installs. every time I add a second monkey and then trigger the link. it does not work. when i then return to manage monkeys, the second monkey is not within the list. and i can not delete the first monkey. each time I do and restart. it reappears. created 2 monkey acounts, 1 to turn off the lights and another to turn them back on.
