I would say kaiba is a villain in season 0 (since he literally tried to kill yugi and his friends). But in the the rest of the show he’s more like an anti hero and an ally. He doesn’t like yugi and his friends much, but he’ll work with them when he needs to. But hey, he did rather redeem himself a lot when he saved joey’s life. I can’t believe they cut that part out of the show. Back when yugi had to fight Joey (who was being mind controlled by marik), when yugi and Joey were dragged down into the ocean by being chained to an anchor, Joey saved yugi, but he failed to save himself and was gonna drown. But kaiba drops the key that unlocks the chains in the water and Joey unlocks the chain and swims up. In the show, it’s joey’s sister that saves him

But still after that, kaiba does still mock Joey and Joey keeps talking about how much he hates kaiba and wants to beat him up
