I think Setoyama already had an eye for Kuroda on their first encounter and you can see it in his gaze. Setoyama was known to brush off other girls from the school but talks to her. During their Karaoke outing, he moves towards her and even followed her to get a drink and to go home. The sealed deal that he found out she is his crush was the handwriting comparison when Setomaya borrowed Erino's textbook and when Kuroda introduced them to each other.

Nah, where he found out was the first time he walked back with her from the karaoke and he spoke of quitting soccer and her response was what was written in his desk. That was when he put 2 & 2 together. When he went to borrow Erino's book, it was to confirm who truly shared his seat with him. @@lizbecs
