It's been a few months since the last time I talked about creative writing (or, honestly, did any creative writing) but I'm back and recommitting myself to the attempt to write a romance novel while also writing my doctoral dissertation!
I've been thinking a lot lately about how to balance my academic work with my creative interests, and weighing my impulse to push ahead as intensely as possible with the dissertation against my fear of totally burning out if I do that.
If you're also trying to make time for a creative writing project in addition to your work, let me know what your goals are! I'm going to keep sharing my writing journey here, and hopefully we can all motivate each other to keep moving forward.
As always, you can follow along with me between KZfaq videos on Instagram: / glutenbergbible

And you can check out my reading lists and favorite books at my Bookshop.org affiliate page here: bookshop.org/shop/glutenbergb...
Happy May to all!

11k a month sounds totally doable! I'm glad the mystical algorithm suggested your channel; I write romance, too. Looking forward to following your journey with both the creative and academic writing projects 🥰

I think you should give yourself more credit for the NaNoWriMo novel. It's not that you didn't finish it - you finished a first draft of it, and this next stage is the continuation of that creative process that you wouldn't be at had you not done it. You learn a lot by finishing a draft and there's good in realizing what worked and what didn't. In that respect it sounds like a very successful endeavor

Thanks so much for this comment, I love this perspective! This seems like the kind of thing I would say to someone else, but don't think to say to myself. It's funny how we can be harsher on ourselves in that way. You're completely right, I think writing that draft was a necessary step towards being able to write something that I do feel more satisfied with!

Great video! I have two quick questions. First, where did you get the see-through cup? It's beautiful. Second, what is the probability that in the future I share a short story, maximum 15 pages, and you provide minor feedback whenever you have the time? Thanks!

You give me a wonderful idea. I'm writing three fics and i have a good idea for a novel. But i don't know how start so if a writing by hand can help. Tipping give me lazziness.

writing by hand and/or going for a long walk with a plan of thinking through plot problems while walking always help me! Those approaches shake me out of my usual routine and help get the ideas flowing. Good luck working through it!

It's the Pyrenees! Since I'm at a stage in my program where I'm just working independently I'm able to do it remotely, I moved to Andorra with my partner through his work a couple years ago :)
