Nice video and great work. I've been on the receiving end of those trusses dozens of times. A good crane operator will either make or break you. That was a pretty simple roof-I've seen some with dozens of different trusses that need to be set and braced in a specific order.

I run a Manitex 22101S, mainly doing HVAC, but a fair amount of beams and trusses. I’ll have to try your 2x4 “truss hook” method. I usually just choke em with my 20’ synthetic straps or run two baskets on tall ones, so I can drop the ball down to the guys to disconnect so they don’t have to climb up to unhook a choker. Your way seems even more efficient!

Is that the truck you got from Rexco in Cedar Rapids ? Rexco built a new huge complex on the south side of town with very easy access.

Glad to see you're back at it. I would stress to the less experienced that securing a load using gravity to keep the sling in place is not the safest way to do these. It might be fast, but when you have a complicated roof structure and/or in the blind, it's a recipe for an accident. You were fortunate to have an eye-level view for the entire run, but I didn't notice anyone giving signals which can also contribute to problems. Just another comment, we ran our smaller cranes with a two part block all of the time. With the fast line speeds on the newer cranes, you rarely found yourself lacking for speed. In your case here as an example, I would say the hook would make it to the spot faster than the boom. And the extra line pull allows for the unexpected heavy load to be handled easier. I know most people run two winches which to me was unneeded. It results in a loss of capacity due to deductions for the aux. sheave, block and ball. Also dealing with one winch is simpler. I look forward to your next video as it puts me back in the seat again!

One of the jobs I can do on building site is run the tag line. My age and balance makes it not wise climbing. Glad I can help in my 80’s.

I run a national crane 1800 series (40t) I normally use a 10 foot cable laid with a 8 foot plow steel choker with a snap hook on the bottom. Your way is by far faster, like you said be careful when setting them using the 2x4 method lol

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family Jimmy! Nice to see the TV tower in the background. Back in the day I used to drive up to it and stand underneath and take some pretty good pictures of looking up through all the lattice work. Innocent times.

Left the ball on site 😅 I don't mind cabling straight up on truss jobs when picking and let em swing some. Do you? I'm not booming down to make it lift straight every time. Thanks for the upload!!

It has to be nice to get the jobs from time to time where you can keep the crane in motion as opposed to sitting around and waiting for something to happen.

Truss jobs are the worst!!! Normally, the guys you are working with are great people, but most have no idea how to signal or utilize a crane. If the operator can see it, it's fine, but when you can't, it gets kinda sketchy and frustrating. Nice video.

Is your tadano 180 in the shop or are they short handed on boomtruck operators? Not often we see you on a boomtruck.
