Setting up a BMW /2 Magneto Ignition system.

This video shows how Ande at Barrington Motor Works sets up the magneto ignition system for a /3 or /2 motor.
The ignition system operates when two magnets generate a current by means of rotating on the end of the cam shaft. The magneto system is timed to energize the coil and produce a spark at a particular time.
Setting up your magneto ignition components correctly will ensure the motor fires at the correctly timed moment. Each component has a function and if set properly the ignition will produce a properly timed, strong spark.

Do those newer plastic covered coils work better than the original style?

They sure do! They are fall more resistant to breakdown than the original canvas and resin models. The Emerald Island coils really are the best coil around these days.

I have a friend with a 63' R60/2 and the advance unit "seems" fine and the weights expand out with revs and return BUT,,, the timing light shows ZERO advance,,,, thoughts ???
