This is an extremely well-done and CONCISE explanation of how to set up scenes with a PowerPoint (or Keynote) presentation in OBS. I’ve watched several others that made the process seem daunting and convoluted; they were also MUCH longer. Thank you for simplifying this … and for delivering the material so pleasantly!

I will point interested colleagues in this direction. You give a concise summary of the setup. I’ve done much with OBS, but it has taken quite a bit of faffing about on my part to get there. Having access to concise tutorials will encourage others to use OBS, which I find to be most helpful for teaching remotely.

So awesome. Thank you. Now I just need to figure out how to either make Google Slides do the same thing or load a PDF that I can walk through instead. I've figured a dirty workaround with Google Slides but still looking to make it more elegant. A PDF I can click through would be preferred so I'm going to go through your channel and see if there is anything about that. Either way though this has to be the absolute best presented tutorial I have seen in decades!

But I would like to have a way to also display my students sharing on zoom so I see if they’re doing the exercises right. I’m still searching for a way to do it, but I guess it won’t be possible. Please if you know, help me out with this need I have. Thanks again! Great video!

Hmm, I think you might need a dual monitor set up. I am not an iPad user but a regular PC user, so I present the slides on my main display while interacting with students on the secondary monitor. One other professor I know actually opens Zoom on two devices, one on her iPad and another on her laptop so she could teach while interacting with students.

@CultureTripGuide-HilmarHWerner

hi there! thanx for your obs-demo! for a newbee there remain some questions open. say I want to record a presentation (power point or the like = pp), show myself (greenscreen or not) on top or not, and be able to read a script. so I guess I'll have to open three programs on a screen simultaneously at least: the presentation-program, obs (wherein my camera is visible in a scene as source) and a text-program, so I can see and manipulate everything (selecting scenes and/or layers). but how can I now make sure best that the viewer (streaming or not) sees just the main-screen of my pp (without controls), with me on top or not, as I chose? would/could I just use the pp in a scene as source or could/should I chose a section of my huge screen (= mainscreen of pp) with everything on it?? / and what would I do to run everyhing as noiseless as possible: 1. on a pc without fan, i.e. a "mini-pc" (performance requirements??), 2. touch-pad instead of mouse and possibly a remote control for my pp? so could you please demonstrate or explain how you see all the sources, but limit the presentation to the main-screen (without the controls, e.g. the slide-overview...) thanx for answering these questions regarding a probably very usual pratical situation!
@DoryVideo
@DoryVideo 3 жыл бұрын
you can do it all on one screen if you have the resolution, you can use PPT in Window presenter mode rather than full screen and then arrange the rest of the software around the screen.

With your scene selected, go to Sources, and click the + to add. Select Image. With Create New selected, name your image something useful, and click OK. Click Browse, select your image, and click OK. Crop the image as you see fit, and position it wherever you want. Then just move the image name to the bottom of the list of sources to move it to the background. I do this for split screen backgrounds and scroll bars at the bottom of my streams.

Thanks a lot, i also want to share something. Unfortunately your settings suggestions seems wrong, for example you should not use mp4 output because it exports the recorded video in the end of the recording process (when you click stop recording). It is problematic because in a case of errors, power corruption or software runtime exceptions, you will lost all record file. So this is why .mkv is recommended, it saves each frame of video on your disk. The other issue is using stream quality high will give you huge file, it is hard to store, upload, share. As an instructor we generally share a document, power point etc, audio quality is important but video frame rate can be reduced or simply use other resolution with same ratio (16:9), it does not affect the material quality if we use medium standart. Regards.
@DoryVideo
@DoryVideo 3 жыл бұрын
I know what you're saying but I've never had it drop out while recording. Also with tools like Handbrake you can recomress high quality recordings to small sizes for distribution, I always record at the best quality and then re-encode to a lower quality afterwards, so I always have the best material to work with.
