This was my first tank and I think it’s an awesome way to get into the hobby. A lot of people say it’s harder to start small but I think it forms better husbandry habits. All in all Great video!

I never thought of it that way but I am a clean frea with my 10 gallon and I am pretty proud of th e fact that I never had a speck of algae at 6 months in! I think keeping light off for about 2 i/2 months after fill has been crucial!

Hi, nice video. But can you do one about maintance of the tank. Can you grow sps in it.. or is soft coral the highest possible. Also do you suggest waterchanges or do you suggest dosing like the Dsr method?

Is this tank made from tempered glass? Can I drill in it and add a small sump?
@robscuremusic3 жыл бұрын
A few questions. 1. You mention pushing the rock into the sand bed. Would it be better to place the rock on the bottom of the tank and then add sand? 2. Originally the sponge and other filter material was in the middle chamber. Later it looks like you had it in the chamber to the left. Is that correct and if so, what did you add to the middle chamber? 3. Is the tank still running now and would you still recommend the tank for a beginner?

If the entire setup costs less than $160, then explain how the cost of the tank you linked below $161.41 WHEN ON SALE? (Its normal price is $174.99.) I am so confused right now, did he exclude the tank price itself and only calculated everything else, or was his math wrong?

@paulawilliams82776 жыл бұрын
Don't trick people into thinking its 160$, sure that's the price of the tank. But all together I played 480$ and I don't even have corals. Just sand a rock and a clown fish. There's a skimmer that's needed. And the light isn't strong enough for corals to grow at a steady pace. So expect to upgrade. Overall a great take. But expect 480
@WaterspoutsOfTheDeep6 жыл бұрын
The light is definitely strong enough for anything a person would want to grow in it. It is around 100 par near sandbed and 5 inches from top it goes up to around 230 par and higher if a person places stuff really high. If you want to you can get a 5W 440 nm blue waterproof LED strip that sticks to hood that adds more blue and par for 17 dollars from ebay. With such a small tank you don't need a skimmer either. There is a tonn of space in the back so putting a shit tonn of biological media is a really good idea especially for a nano to keep the tank really stable. I fit around 1.5 liters of seachem denitrate which is a high surface area zeolite rock for biological with the perfect structure to host anaerobic bacteria to pull nitrate from the water which works good because there is a lot of low flow places back there which also cuts the need for water changes and a skimmer vastly. You don't need a ATO just put a waterbottle of RO in once or twice a week, you don't need a RO machine just get gallon jugs of RO water from grocery store for under a dollar just make sure to read and get one without added minerals and make sure it's fully RO or RO and ozonated not distilled or "filtered." Do water change every 1-4 weeks of 20-30%. The big secret is lots of biological.
@atomicdad39205 жыл бұрын
You don’t need that skimmer for a 13.5 the amount of waste collected is negligible compared to a water change. But I agree, everything else is expensive af. Recommend inTank media basket
@theniagarafallsgaragegarde45614 жыл бұрын
@@atomicdad3920 those media baskets are a money grab just slap some eggcrate together it's way cheaper

@@WaterspoutsOfTheDeep Wow! Thanks so much for posting that! I bought a coral life sea scape light. I believe its the same light on biocubes and the par is only 65 at the top in the middle! Its a great looking light. Not to much disco and very wide, much wider than this light. It has tons of leds! but 8k Is what it says for white. Anyway, my acans are browning and shriveling up and no longer will eat shrmp. I have just been giving it reef roids. So all the reef roids and no skimmer has nitrates up! Plus I just won a bunch of frags! ( Dont be hating...lol)This sounded like the perfect light. I bought a small skimmer for 10 bucks and this light is way more powerful but I see so many people replacing it because no blue white mix, either that or not enough blue. So I was wondering about strips but never done that before, so nice to know that will work! I am going to buy this tank for sure now! Probably tomorrow! Thanks for the info!
@WaterspoutsOfTheDeep4 жыл бұрын
@@karennation3580 It would be perfect for growing out frags and used as a small quarantine tank too. I still love it after four years. There are outlet nosels from bulkreefsupply you can put on that randomize the outflow so you don't really need a jet. Forget the brand but you can find it there and if they are out just order from the brands website. Because it's a strip led it gives much more even light with no harsh hot spots for corals like some lights. I'm just now thinking of changing mine up from a mini reef to some sort of center coral piece and some bubble tip/s with clowns. I think it would look cool once they grow out and fill out the take to see them swishing around. Another really cool idea for the tank I might try in the future and buy another evo for is a macro algae tank with soft coral and have just sand and stuff growing/planted in it. Looks really cool like a mini garden and you can add different stuff in instead like shaped pieces of glass objects and different mineral crystals that you just get some clear 2 part epoxy and coat to make them water proof so they don't react to the salt water. toptropicals.com has a great product called sunshine epi that would be amazing for macro algae.

Don't buy this tank. The filter does not work and will not clean the water. Plus you need to buy lots of stuff to support corals in it. I regret buying this tank.
@jrk19905 жыл бұрын
MattInTheToque ...all you have to do is simply upgrade the filtration..which you pretty much do with all tanks..... and you need to buy things to support them period. In any tank..
