Tuvok thinking: Fascinating, phasers don't usually make people appear; they make them disappear. Also Tuvok thinking: Why haven't I instituted a covert communication procedure among the crew in the event of something like this happening? It doesn't seem logical for me to not think of that.

Tuvok is a very thorough and efficient security officer. I find it a little disheartening that he didn't have various security protocols trained into the crew for such incursions where crewmembers unable to directly speak could use more indirect methods to notify of an emergency.

I am surprised the constant brainwave monitoring of the crew did not help here.
@irregularassassin63802 жыл бұрын
@@trazyntheinfinite9895 I don't think their brainwaves are monitored constantly. That seems to usually require specialist equipment. It's also possible that Tuvok did have such a thing in place and Seven used it here. She disarmed him with almost zero effort and he showed little surprise (even for a Vulcan) that there was an intruder in the room with them.

everything in the Delta Quadrant is new, he can only prepare them for conventional threats. The crew apart from Seven and the Doctor didn't even realize the aliens were there. Seven also had to act quickly without alerting anyone.

Basically, a "safe word" - I.e. "Cmdr. Tuvok, the 'Paralex Imbalance' requires me to reconfigure the relay...' Tuvok could just say, "Ah, I understand. Proceed" and then not be too surprised by whatever happens next. Kirk and Spock had that one down almost a century earlier - hours may seem like days.

Seven and The Doctor were a great example of an overlooked benefit of Voyager's writing. The buddy system, or the odd couple. The Doctor is a great example. By himself, his character is "meh". However when you have him bounce off another character, his and the person he is interacting with shines. Here are some examples of long term buddy relationships. The Doctor and Seven The Doctor and Kes The Doctor and Paris Neelix and Tuvok Paris and Kim. I am not saying these characters suck on their own, but when they are paired right, you really enjoy their interactions in various situations. I find this tactic works best with introverted characters, rather than extroverts. It allows for the more quieter characters to express themselve where they would normally be a fly on the wall.

This message of this episode is the ethical argument regarding experimental procedures on lower forms of life. Although the Voyager crew and the Srivani are sentient, they are still different species. The Srivani may consider all other species lower forms of life, therefore suitable for bio-experimentation just as humans feel justified to experiment on apes. I LOVE this episode, one of the best Star Trek episodes ever. I own the prop the EMH used on Seven to alter her ocular implant, I won it in the IAW ebay auctions in the mid to late 2000s. I'll record a short video and post in my channel later today. LLAP

I always loved how Janeway was PIIIIIISSSSEED off when they brought this leader of those aliens to see her on account of the constant migraines they had been giving her to see how she'd react. Some of Kate Mulgrew's best acting on the show.

Jerry Ryan took Seven from being hired Eyecandy to being an awesome character (similar in many ways to what Jolene Blalock did with T'Pol).

The multiple layers of failure as head of security. 1. Stopped all communication to personally travel to someone you suspect of tampering. 2. Allowed suspect to take your weapon, with zero effort on your part to prevent them from doing so. 3. Just sat there and watched them act afterwards, silent and obedient. Refer to issue #1 I mean, jeeze Tuvok ...how are you in that professional position when you basically acted like it was your very first day? This would be grounds for demotion, and a whole lot of ridicule behind his back of people making fun of him. So embarrassing and unprofessional. Even Worf would have done a better job, and he has about a 10% success rate with engaging intruders.

3:07 - 3:20 (Seven grabs one of the alien scientist and holds her at gunpoint) Seven: "Don't move! If your people attempt to incapacitate me, I will kill you!!" (Alien thinking: "Hmm! Given the likelihood she would either vaporize or assimilate me, I'd better comply!!) Alien: "I believe you! What do you intend to do now?"

Those hand phasers have three buttons at max. Higher, lower and fire. Yet, they somehow manage to set them to whatever complex frequencies. 🤣

That is not true. Phaser also has small LCARS monitor. And with pressing on buttons they can set beams with different strenght.

@@greengreeneya2102 As far as I know, those buttons on the type 2 phasers, like Seven uses here, are for settings between one and 16. But complex frequencies..?

Tuvok instituted a covert communication procedure for situations just like this: Seven: ''Wink, Wink, stare, look left, Wink, grunt'' Tuvok: ''Are you saying we're facing an Alien incursion'?'' Seven: ''Wink''
