I remember walking side streets in lower manhattan. Found a burrito place where the burrito was big enough for 3 meals. Hidden side street stores, comic book shops, fried fish places. Places away from the tourist traps.

Haha, that's not my definition of a severe thunderstorm! Where I live in Australia the traffic literally comes to a stop as it's not possible to see out of your windscreen. Plus severe thunderstorm equals hail and massive damage to cars and homes 😬

I always like the NYC rain walks you do, they have a great atmosphere. You havent said anything about the Covid situation in New York recently, such as what is happening to the theatres in Broadway and the Wintergarden Theatre in Times Square. It's quite clear Hugh Jackman won't be appearing in Wintergarden anytime soon.

I was in NYC once in April and there was more than 30" of rainfall in Central Park in under 24 hours, 2 lines of the subway were closed because the pumps could not keep up with the rainfall. I remember a state of emergency was declared in NJ where people drowned in their homes because the water rose so quickly. I did a walking tour of Harlem on my own but all I found open were churches & the Boy's & Girl's club.

I suppose the safest place to be in a Thunder Storm is Manhattan, since Lightening always looks for the tallest structure to strike, and apart from getting pretty wet... It isn't going to bother with the ants on the street below. I'd be severely worried if I was on the middle of a golf course in Florida though!!
