Hello and welcome to my sewing room!
Today I'm showing you how to make my
#12 Home Town Quilt Block in 5" and also 10" size.
I am using my latest fabric collection HOME TOWN designed by me and produced and distributed by the fabulous Riley Blake Designs.
I have given you the cutting recipe for both sizes below so be sure and click until the entire description of this video is visible below.
I made blocks 1 thru 10 to go into the HOME TOWN SEW ALONG QUILT which took place on my blog.
CLICK on this link to go to my blog where the sew along still remains for the of you who would like to make the quilt!
beeinmybonnetco.blogspot.com/...
Each tutorial I'll be showing you just one of fourteen blocks.
I'm also going to make 16 blocks of each of the 5" size to make a quilt for my bed....and I'm making the 10" blocks for a table runner.
Of course I'll show & tell you all about both the quilt and the runner!
I'm taking you along with me on this journey as I sew Home Town Blocks each time on my vintage featherweight sewing machines.
Thank you for joining me today:)
I enjoy spending time with you in my sewing room & I hope that you enjoy our time together too!!

I like the idea of a cutting day and a sewing day . More efficient use of time. Or even if not whole days at least blocks of prep time then sew sew sew, fun fun fun. I do enjoy the cutting and setting it up in blocks ready to go!

My daughter likes to play count the clappers when we watch your videos. ❤ She said, " I think people must have not known she already had clappers and each gotten her one for Christmas. 😂😂❤️ Thank you for all you do. I have learned so much from you and my accuracy is improving!

Thank You Lori! I have been enjoying this series so much. These are wonderful blocks that can be used in so many different ways. & YES! it is so hard to explain to "non-quilty" friends how much Pure Joy I get from cutting up fabric & sewing it back together again, playing with color & shape.

I am a true believer in "quilting physics" & have a real desire to sometimes stack my clappers for the extra weight. I really hope to make this quilt... I've kept screenshots of all the "recipes" & as soon as I've got a free spot in my many WIP's, I hope to get started on it. Thanks for sharing all of these blocks.

My understanding of tailors blocks are that they hold the heat in, so that the fabric and thread have time to fully relax. You can't maintain the heat with the iron because it would scorch the fabric, but the wood blocks let you keep the fabric heated for longer without burning it, while also applying weight/pressure to flatten it.

I made all the blocks last year for the remix mini series with your cozy Christmas fabric. This year I sewed the blocks together and added a border and machine quilted it. I used the red bee plaids wide back for backing. It will be for my grand daughter’s 12th birthday Dec 7th.

I love this block-so simple and yet full of possibilities. I have several quilts going at the moment and fight the urge to start this one every time you release a new tutorial. Regardless, I always set aside time to watch every episode because you inspire me to keep sewing on my projects. (Right now I’m not making much progress on my quilts because I have Christmas gifts in the works and am determined to have them done at least a few days early this year. I knit and basket weave too so it’s always a juggling act trying to decide which project is most pressing or which hobby I prefer on any given day. I also “cut one day” and “sew on another” as you do. I’m always so excited to be starting a new project! I never thought of it that way before, but that’s exactly what I do too. I find after careful cutting, I need to do something less exacting or I tend to make errors in whatever I am doing. I love your tutorials; thank you so much for sharing your talents with us.

I love this series. It is amazing how far these little scraps can go. Thanks for that tip, I have been able to have a lot of just the right color for the scrappy blocks. Ina) my sewing of garments over the years, it would have been useful on many fabrics to have starters and ender pieces. It had to wait until I started quilting and learned it from you. Now I have my own vintage Pyrex dish to hold them. One day, I bet I will plan a bonus quilt! Thanks for all you have taught this older sewer.

I love watching your videos! I’m working on the Hometown quilt and have finished all of the blocks, except to hand appliqué all of them to the background. I love your appliqué method and actually won “best of show” in the County Fair with my Bee Happy hand appliquéd quilt. My husband asked, “does Lori Holt hand appliqué her quilts?” I told him I think you do some both ways. ???

I love watching you sew, Lori! You are so inspiring. I absolutely love this block. I’ve been searching for a block that would work well with flannel. I live in the northeast and flannel quilts are wonderful to have on hand during the cold months. I’m going to do a 10 inch test block, and if needed maybe resize it to a 12 inch block. I like to use larger pieces when working with flannel. Thank you for providing us with these fabulous videos! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

Thank You for showing another cute block. This block in the red flower reminds me of a poinsettia and would make a pretty table runner/topper using the 10” size, or a cute little mug rug using the 5” size. I am writing the measurements down but would you ever put out a book/pattern of these blocks in the 5” & 10” measurements?
