Hello and welcome to my sewing room...are you ready to play with squares?
This is the second video in my new Simply Squares Series and in this video
we are making the 8" Harvest Block using 2 1/2" squares.

In this video I am using the AUTUMN fabric collection and making a bed quilt that will measure
80" x 96" in a 10 x 12 setting. (10 blocks across in each row of 12)
I will be making 120 blocks for my quilt...3 each of 40 prints from the collection
and all 10 of the background prints will be used 12 times each.
Because this is a quilt with no sashing or borders or in other words what I like to call a "one block wonder" it is super easy to customize your quilt/runner/pillow to whatever size you would like...YOU are the BOSS of your own quilt!
Simply work out the quilty math in 8" measurements to decide the perfect project size for you.
The HARVEST block is fun and quick to make...just watch and see:)
For each block you will need:
12 - 2 1/2" squares (color print)
12 - 2 1/2" squares (background print)
I'm happy to be taking you along on my journey as I make these fun HARVEST blocks on my vintage featherweight sewing machine.

Hi, I’ve just found your channel, what is it that is on your sewing machine? I had one as a free gift and I’ve no idea how it works. I put it on my sewing machine but the quarter inch foot doesn’t line up with the quarter inch on what I call a flower lol. I am curious why you use stitch & flip corners instead of HST. Wouldn't HST's be less fabric waste for same outcome?

She likes to streamline her process of sewing. HST would add a step to her method of doing blocks.

Good question. Recall that HST have to be cut larger than the finished block size, so that the cutting of larger sizes over a whole quilt’s worth of blocks might result in needing more fabric than is being ‘wasted’ for the stitch and flip.

It doesn't matter how much starch I use on my fabric before cutting, my stich and flips always come out wonky. I rarely get straight lines and corner to corner - I draw the line, use my laser, move the needle - have tried every trick available and nothing has worked for me

I hv done it both ways. Lori's way less hassle, less bulk in seams, lays flatter, worth the difference in my brain power with less stress. Thanks Lori

I can’t find your piece on vintage irons, I’ve looked and looked too long. I recently purchased a never used vintage iron, I used it but now the sole plate is corroded. I can clean it but Sheeze how to keep the sole plate from getting so nasty?
