Watching these videos from Canada, it is interesting seeing drain stacks on the exterior of a house (instead of hidden within the interior wall spaces), and also 'gullies' , which I have never seen here. Plumbing code differences are significant, likely because of the extreme cold weather here.

Watching from Florida, and I'm amazed too. Been to the UK and never notice their feces drains out to the side of there homes. I can not imagine the stench when it backs up. Also I notice all there "gullies' covers are rectangle, the covers could fall in the sewage.

@@kenograham2927 I'm just an amateur handyman who has done a ton of work on houses over the years here in the US. Yeah, really fascinated by the way that the plumbing is set up over there compared to here. It's really weird to me, lol. I have never dealt or seen a house with most of it's piping being external like this, everything here is run inside/under/through the building. Is the water pressure that bad in every place in the UK? That would drive me insane needing to wait forever for a bucket or whatever to fill up. Are showers and every inside faucet that bad as well?
@gingerman5123
@gingerman5123 3 жыл бұрын
@@JG-pw5cr If I had to guess, the external plumbing is due to the building being older than the sewer system. Also the big manholes seem to contribute to the clogs in the first place. I know we get clogs and root infiltration but I've never heard of so many clogs necessitating an entire industry like this. We just call the regular plumbers.

Back in the day when the soil stack was put up, should of had an access pipe at the base of the stack. it's a common thing that's left out. In the video, the job is just unblocking. Guess later on a 4" cast iron timesaver access could be cut in-quicker or probably the same price as a new plastic stack with access at the bottom.

Howdy! I just discovered your channel. I'm in Texas in the USA. At first your plumbing setup just seemed really weird to me. Here everything is completely enclosed in pipes with almost no access like the manholes you always show. Is it because a lot of these buildings were built before central plumbing was a thing? Is that why the plumbing is on the outside of the buildings? Are newer neighborhoods built the same way?
