We jetted so much sludge out of the pipe it clogged the city sewer!!
In this video we hydro scrub out from an outside clean out approx 70 feet to the city sewer with 4000 PSI of water and penetration nozzle to blow heavy sludge build up that was clogging line. After several runs we pull the city sewer man hole lid to find the sludge has enter the city pipe and clogged it off. We then remove the jetter hose to find a large wad of tampons and a spring stuck on the jetter nozzle. The sludge should never get that bad if you're using the sewer correctly!

@DrainPros
@DrainPros 4 жыл бұрын
Our two tow behind jetters have a water 250 gallon holding tank which on full pressure takes us about 12-15 minutes to blow through. If we start running low we will connect a hose to the house connection and continue to fill as we jet. Were good to jet as long as the water is above the pump prime level when we start 👍

No human eats that much CORN. That Corn and grease came from the unmaintained town sewer. Sewer mains in the street are only pitched at 1/16th" per foot (.005) On outlying sewers, it often isn't enough water flow to move the solids. The water runs out of the solids creating blockages. If the pipe under the road is Clay Pipe, roots may be getting in to the pipe and blocking it. There are companies that come in and replace the entire sewer IN PLACE without digging up the road. The town I lived in did the entire town this way. Some of the trees didn't do so well because they lost their source of water and nutrients.

Chris Gordon We bought into the lining technology about a year ago but only on the residential side of things like 4” cast main sewer or 6” clay.. haven’t gotten into the bigger stuff like lining a street where there is super big money to be made but it’s awesome technology!
@chrisgordon5719
@chrisgordon5719 4 жыл бұрын
@@DrainProsIt is quite a specialized project to do the Street Mains. You have to first locate all of the house connections, then bust out the clay pipe with a specialized tool, then replace all of the laterals with 6" PVC Its pretty cool but expensive because of all of the specialized equipment you need. Like in some places you need underground boring equipment. As soon as someone sees you busy, they think you are making money and they get into it too. Where I lived, a company from Maine came down and worked with a sewer excavation contractor.

Finally someone that knows how to jet! 🤙🏼 well I’ve only watched like 2 diff guys here on YT lol Every time I come across sludge like that I always use a 6 rear-3 front RPD to really break down the sludge with lots of water volume. (I don’t think I’ve ever used my chisel head) but maybe I should. I would have also flushed out that line with LOTS OF WATER. If the city backs up? I’ll make a quick call and they can take care of it. Just gives me peace of mind knowing that the entire line would be sludge free.

I called the city on this one, usually they come right over and get it open but they had two crews stuck on problem lines so it was going to be about an hour! We didn’t want to put to much thick sludge back into the sewer pipe before the city sewer had their line open so we used a garden hose after the video ended for a few minutes to keep the sludge in the pipe pretty thin. It looks like the sewer system was built way back when as it appears to have the storm drain dumping into the sanitary sewer. Very old school. But that was the way it was back then. Now a lot of places are (money permitting) are doing separate waste and storm drains. I know ALL new systems have to be separate. But given our fiscal crisis/depression this will probably push this WAY back. Maybe time to get the WPA up and running again to repair our outdated, unmaintained sewer and water and electrical systems.

Question: Novice here, in this Episode 50, why did you only use the penetrating nozzle? By the diameter of you hose I'm assuming you're getting 18 GPM out of your rig. I was confused after seeing the clay tile, why you would default to wipes being the cause of the blockage and not roots? Roots and/or wipes would have been my first thought. Either way, to my thinking, I would have ran a rooter nozzle to clear any possible roots? I'm really surprised that didn't get consideration here, but I'm still learning. To aid with my own learning curve, I appreciate you sharing your thought processes here and help me get grow! Thanks in advance!

By only running a penitrater the plumber makes sure they will be called back out in a year. Or there was no roots in the line and no need to run a cutter. That's why it's important to always TV the line.

The Municipality needs to maintain their sewer mains. The Massachusetts town I lived and worked in had a program of regularly cleaning the mains in the streets. If the mains are clean and flowing, the baby wipes don't get clogged. You may be dealing with clay pipe, full of roots. That place has been a problem for years. That's not the first time someone has been there. Did you run your camera in there and look for problems? That house is old enough to have had the downspouts connected to the sewer. EPA ordered that no downspouts can be connected to the Sanitary Sewers. When it used to rain, the rain helped clean the grease sludge from the Sewer Mains. How old is that sewer? Almost 100 years old? Where is that location? New York State ? Long Island?

Chris Gordon Agreed wish we could get a contract with the municipality to clean all the lines! Currently in our area each municipality watches over and maintains their own. We are located in New York, We had a record of jetting/camera work at this property a year ago with the same issue super sludged up from tampons/wipes/condoms and a video recording of no roots or offsets in the clay pipe. We informed the landlord of the same issue as last time and that after the city opened there side of things we could return to camera the line. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment Chris! 👍

@@DrainPros In my opinion and experience, these residential blockages are caused by the municipalities not maintaining their sewers. "Out of sight, Out of mind." That poor old lady living in that house didn't generate all of that grease. So they blame it on her and try to make her pay for your work. That problem has been there for longer than you have probably been on this earth. That cleanout beside the house was added later. It isn't part of the original plumbing for that house. When it was "new", it probably had a Little Bity House Out Back" with a 1/4 moon cut into the door and a Sears Catalog on the wall. Without seeing the location, I'll bet that there is a bathroom and kitchen right inside from that cleanout. That was the original plumbing for the home. It might have even had a septic tank and it was replaced by the town sewer. The sewer and the water service may even be in the same trench. It might have even been vented by the downspouts draining into the sewer. The Massachusetts town I lived and worked in, was always responsible for all sewers outside the foundations. Mains and Laterals. The problems were tree roots Usually where the laterals connected to the street mains. Out in the road. Whenever I had a problem like yours,, I ended putting in a 3rd world cleanout on the yard at the property line. Especially if I had to dig it up to rod it out. That was a one time thing. Never twice. I bought a piece of 10" SDR green pipe and cut off pieces of what I needed. Cut and fitted the bottom to fit over the sewer pipe in the ground like a street curb box would be. Cut out the top of the lateral as needed, cemented the 10" piece in place and fitted the top with a 12 Round electrical plastic splice box. Then, if there are nasties in the pipe, its coming from the street and NOT from the house. NOW, you can rod in both directions.

When youhave a clog in a line like that. How come you don't jet it out from the city side?? Instead of burrowing through the muck attack it from the frount by the city man hole.

can't help but wonder if that "spring" was once a drain cable from a ghost of plumbing past, lol! I think if it were me, i would have ran the length of the pipe one more time, after a few toilet flushes, as im sure some of that sludge was still inside the house, but as always, great video, thanks for what you do

Thanks Scott! After I ended the video we hooked up the garden hose for 10 minutes to keep her sludge thinned out and test it more until the municipal could get there to open their side!

I had a Ridgid KM-1500 machine. Years ago, I lost a 15' 1" wire section in a sewer. I couldn't get it back. It must have finally been removed when they replaced the entire clay pipe sewer. Never caused any problems.

You definitely should have ran a bunch of water in that manhole to make it flow easier. If you would’ve left my pipes full of sludge I would’ve been very upset cuz if I went and flushed my toilet it would not have flushed very well and possibly could have backed up.

We ran a bunch of water after the video in the customer clean out to keep the sludge thin but we aren’t allowed under our insurance or by the municipality to do anything at all on the city sewer, honestly shouldn’t have even had the shovel in there but I wanted to check if it was just right there. Appreciate you watching and commenting Alan 👍

The heavy breathing and the back and forth was really hard to overlook. Why didn’t he have the lady flush the toilet to flush it through? Why not poor a big bucket of water in there to flush it out. And why didn’t he scrape the sludge back into the pipe? So he stuck a hose down a pipe.....and loosened a clog that’s just gonna come right back since the line isn’t flowing cause he didn’t flush it. So Drain Pro just means pressure washer hose with a tip I can get on Amazon for $12.
