I just finished my second mat. Thanks Lizzie, sew much fun. I also added snaps to the two larger pockets so they don't gap open when holding items. And so my marking pens stay upright.

Great project Lizzy! Will be a nice gift for my friends that are sewers. I will have to go through my fabric stash to come up with the 5 inch squares and the backing fabric. I have already made a sewing machine mat with pockets from pre-quilted backing and matching fabric from another KZfaq video but this is a great project with new techniques with the backing fabric as the binding that I will have fun trying out. Thank you! :)

Its very cute! Couldn't you use a strip of your backing material instead of a strip of squares for what will end up as the inside of the pockets so that you don't loose sight of your pretty squares? I'm sure that's not proper for quilters, but I'm not a quilter.

Of course, it’s nice to get to the point of making a mini quilt and then you could keep as is or turn up, either way whatever you decide to do it’ll be awesome x

All my patterns are pdf downloads and 99% fit onto A4 or letter sized paper if templates are included

It would actually waste more fabric but, if you wanted the gingham check on the back not to be skewed you could actually cut the entire piece on the bias and then you wouldn’t have to worry about your lines being straight or not.
